A QR Code (stands for "Quick Response") is a mobile phone readable barcode that's been big in Japan forever, broke into Europe a while back, and is now getting traction in USA. I've started seeing it around here at times, too!
Most Aussies have a phone that can interpret these - but it seems lack of education as to what these are has prevented it being embraced yet - but it will happen.

What info can these codes store?

Where would you use a QR Code? Business cards, flyers, posters, signage, shirts, promotional items such as coffee cups. Real estate agents are even putting them on signs large enough to be read from the phone at the road side.
I might put one in my email signature.

While a little ugly in themselves, because they are not used extensively they can help your promotional material to stand out - the QR code can even be customized to become part of your brand - even your logo!

Here is a basic QR Code for my website contact page

4005

I have another I placed on my web contact page - far for detailed with full address, email, phone number.
Being more rich in information the image is much more dense.
To make it less 'boxy' I edited and tweaked the image.

This might be hard to read due to density and small size allowed here. if you can't read it, then try the large oneat my website by going to the code above first
4006

You can do this because it can accommodate up to 30% error rate in reading.
This allows companies like this one to do some amazing customization of QR Codes.

It could work, hit & miss i say but offering this on your website with maybe an offer of some sort could be the attraction. Some would say its more trouble than wot its worth:i dunno:. Definitely worth the effort tho i guess.

Thanx for the heads-up dave.

Sorta - most smart phones, tablets, etc.. can 'read' these.

It is a quick and easy way of importing contact information into your phone, directing people to a web-page, or inviting them to an event.

Yes, you view it thru your phone.

I use the application in-igma on my HTC HD-2

Use Optiscan on your iPhone
Use Barcode Scanner or Quickmark on your Android device

Download the software you need for your phone from here
