Hate to put a downer on it, but don't get your hopes up too much. These vacant blocks are the type of jobs where they can ring 7 or 8 different companies to quote and pick whoever is cheapest. There is no need for them to be home to show you anything. I've wasted plenty of time on them in the past, but hopefully you will pick them up.

If you do get them I would look at using the brushcutter with a blade on, especially the first two pics anyway. I helped another forum member on a job last week on a very similar job and it didn't take long at all with the bull handle whip with the blade on. You can go a little higher and are able to see hidden objects a little better than with a slasher mower.

exactly, i got one the same, all excited, but he REALLY only wanted it cleaned up once, then he got a beer money bob to do the maintenance.

dont go buying a machine for one job - if and when he lets you down youre stuffed

well, thats my take on it anyway.

ive got a h660II deutscher but judging by the look of those pics i probably wouldnt even bother using it. with a good brushcutter with blade or even good thick line (which i prefer) i rkn you would hammer those blocks in 30 minutes or less each.
the slasher is good but sometimes with uneven terrain and super high grass its just not worth the effort.. plus could be a hassle transporting.

Good onya Greenie go for it mate you do a good job and who knows what will come of it.
Mate when I was bricklaying a Monastery came up and a lot of people said dont do it its to hard you will go broke if you make a mistake they will send you to the cleaners.. Lucky I didn't listen to Negative people cz it ended up winning the Master Builders award for bricklaying excelence. Mate if you win the job then get your slashers and go for it might open some doors..
Just so ya know Im not full of BS

gees i did some work as a offsider to a brickie when i was a kid and he was going to give me a apprentice ship when i finished grade 10 unfortantly he died from lukemia when in grade 9 but yeah would of been hard work to make such perfectly roubd arches. I remember when we put windows in we would put nails in the end of a board and put that across the bricks and then lay bricks on top. When doing the arches do you do something similar and what do you use that stays paerfectly round.

Gees mate that looks like its very complicated and time consuming working out all those bricks and where to go and where to be cut. bet you charged a lot more than the usall 1 a brick.

Great work AJD, thought about incorporating small brick jobs into your gardening work?
Maybe letter boxes, small paving jobs, etc as a sideline?
Cheers Fred.

Thanks guys.
TLL&G the only safe way was do and charge and yes because of the nature of the work I got a lot more than normal.

Freds mowing I have been bricklaying since I was 12 years old with my dad on weekends and holidays then apprentiship then the rest of my life so I realy dont care about it now. Maybe if another monastery came up but there is nothing like that around at the moment.

Funny story: I had to do a display pannel so they could see if I was capable of that type of work and I was there doing it out in the bush (Mangrove Mountain NSW) not a sole in site and needed to have a piss so just headed for the nearest tree. I was hapily relieving away when I heard a voice yell "NOT THERE" I looked around and saw a Greek Monk running at me, he made me stop then told me I was pissing on top of the holding tank that holds their Holy Water. I said does this mean I have been blessed? he just gave me a painful look lol but I have been told now that it is all finnished that as long as the monastery is standing a prayer will be said for me I am not that religious but I am honored by that. I will see if I have a photo of one of the Monks...

Mate that is a good example of the building trade getting to regulated.. Hey it used to be caled a green card and everyone had to go in and fill out a form by a due date or sit and pay for a new card, the only thing that changed was the colour from Green to white just a money grab that whole process is a waste of time because there is no pass or fail you just have to sit there listen and pay your money..

They look like a couple of interesting characters those guys. Makes you wonder where the cash comes from to build something like that.

LOL mate 2000 years of donations is where the money comes from. The Monks told me people die and leave everything they have to the church (Buying their stairway to heaven) they had 2 open days when I was there and people came from all over the world I saw one guy write out a $10,000.00 cheque

I did my white card last month... you have to do a 1 day course and do an open book exam (15 questions from memory) at the end... can't remember how many you have to get right to pass.

Point is.... didn't learn a thing... i guess i understand commonsense, but a few there were struggling :i dunno:

Yep Raining here mate

Simmo changed a bit didnt have to pass when I did it just had to be there and pay but it was all just common sense stuff.

I had an argument once with an OH&S guy on a site who puled us all in the shed because we didn't have safety glasses on. My argument was they fog up he said his didnt but when I explained we are hot from working and the weather is cold causing them to fog up and I asked for him to put it in writing so if someone fell off a scaffold cz they couldnt see I had someone to sue he said he would get back to me but never saw him again. He was a pimple faced kid that only had what he had learnt in theory and had no experience outside that.
