Is it expensive to get them registered?

Or a problem to get insurance? Hidden expenses? worth the harrasment? kill the resale value?

Many Thanks

Tom

My daughter bought a new car just after Christmas when all the hail damaged sales were been advertised on the radio in Melbourne. We decided against getting a hail damaged car as we were told you wouldn't be able to insure it and also not able to get finance.

You can get insurance no problem. I can give you details of the company that specialises in them if you like. Not sure about finance though. Repairable writeoff means just that,.........repairable. I picked up one on the weekend at Pickles Auction in Brooklyn. They will probably have another next Saturday too. I got an 04 Rodeo with gas, and a new engine for 6k. I had to put 4 new tyres on it for roadworthy. None of them are registered, so you need to allow for that and a roadworthy.

Obviously the info I was given was incorrect, unless it was only relevant to new cars.

Why would you tell the insurance company just buy it and register it and insure it unless there is obviouse dints how would they know and if they say something denie it how where you to know the guy selling it to you didnnt tell you.

Because the car details are registered as a repairable writeoff. Insurance companys keep records of vin numbers etc as far as I am aware. I think the company that specialises in insuring them is called A1 insurance. I have to insure mine today so I will let you know.

Ok, have gone through insuring my hail damaged ute now, and the company recommended to me (AI insurance) was a rip off. They wanted 800 for full comp, and you have a basic excess, plus a grand penalty due to hail damage if you claim. They would only insure it for what you paid at auction too,....not market value.
I called Buget Direct, and they fully insured it for 700, with a 600 excess, and no other crap penalties. They also told me that If I fix the damage, they would be happy to insure it as if the damage never happened. No company would just do third party with fire and theft. Only basic third party, and the AI mongrels wanted almost 600.
