I just bought myself a 100 ltr spray tank today. Have a couple of commercial clients with big side areas that need spraying. Tried it out. Pretty impressed. Got me thinking about going fro a larger tank on a trailer and dedicating some advertising to larger area spraying. Any advice

Do you plan to do 'spot/hand'' spraying using a long hose and 'stationary' tank/trailer?
Or do you plan to rig it up with a boom and be mobile?

Have you considered any additional costs such as additional liability insurance etc?
It can be very expensive if you do damage to another persons
property with spray drift.

Not sure about SA, but you will probably have to be registered as a licensed spraying contractor
with all sorts of regulations & associated record keeping.

Maybe it's easier to keep it small and below the radar of bureaucracy.

In NSW you have to have a Chemical Application licence to do large areas or to advertise spraying. Plus need to fill out chemical application paperwork for every job, to cover backside if you do get spray drift. Best way to judge whether to spray is to check out the BOM site. Work on the Delta T information. http://www.bom.gov.au/lam/deltat.shtml.
Need folding boom set up with taps to be able to turn one side off if needed also spot spraying hose and gun. What are you going to tow it with. I use my Cox mower, I have set up a plug at rear of mower which leads to a switch on dash, so I can turn on and off when needed. Trailer is a dedicated spray trailer, only pain is I have to muck around loading into trailer, would be easier if I had a 12' trailer with ramps, just run mower and trailer up all connected. Being a rural area I do get a fair bit of spraying work, mainly around clients orchards and large gardens.

how do you carry the tank around Bluey?
my dads got one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/130578601079?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_2686wt_1396
which works surprisingly well... ive borrowed it a couple of times and just hooked it up to the battery on the truck and drove around..
but im thinking of just putting it on a 2 wheel trolley with a battery and wheeling it around when i have to spray large commercial areas

The one I got is similar design but commercial qualityand hold 110 lts. I just put it in a small trailer and towed that around. Put a 12v Battery in the trailer but it lacks a bit on pressure. I was thinking of 200 litre tank and small pertrol driven pump with hose reel. Might make one up myself. Just have it so it slides in the trailer

Bluey,
What psi is your pump and brand as you can buy higher pressure pumps for the units, but it's Litres Per Minute that really makes a difference, I run a 17.5 lpm pump and I can stand and deliver a stream of roundup approx 10 mtrs away from my gun. This pump cost me nearly $300 but it's made a huge difference for spot spraying. If I use the boom I reduce the pressure with a valve as the lpm really does make a fine mist.

Mate it is only a12 vilt pump. Ithink 150 psi can do 5 lt a min

Hi Guys, for those of you that have larger spray units a few questions.

Am looking at getting one for general spot spraying on larger properties. It would be fixed to my ztr.

What size sprayer would you recommend - 60l, 100l ? What pump unit- ltrs/min and psi.

I don't intend to do any other spraying with it other that spot spraying on larger properties.

Hi John

Having just got one there first things I noticed were that for larger areas 100 lt capacity would be a minimum I reckon. You also propbably need a bigger capacity pump than they come supplied with. A hose reel with a larger length hose would be great as i would allow youto get to areas further away or around obstacles. I saw one on ebay that was a trolley design so you could wheel it around. Had a petrol driven pump attached with a hose reel. Was not real good quality but had potential in a set up like that. The one I got is a Fimco and you can get a small trailer that it attaches to which you hook up behind your ride on. Can get a boom spray as well.
