Over the years I have tried $2.00 gloves to $35.00 gloves, but they all seem to wear very quickly, and dont really seem to be up to the job, any suggestions for the best gloves for general gardening (weeding, pruning, etc)

Not really I have had the same experience, I just buy a box of Showa 310 gloves, I find I can feel everything including thorns Ouch!!! and they last fairly well. Not for pruning roses I use riggers gloves for them.

I just use the riggers gloves. Buy half a dozen at a time and leave them in my big tool box. Mine seem to last a fair time but I know one of my old offsiders used to go through them fairly quickly.

I find i lose all felling in gloves and have to give them a miss for all but tidying up after pruning roses, but I only weed with bear hands.

on the subject, is anyone using their anti-vibration gloves, as discussed a couple of months back? I find mine more of a hindrance than a help

I use these for gardening/weeding http://www.vileda.com.au/au/products/show/2473?hotspot_id=2010

No Redeye, I did not buy any. My Showas look a lot like the Ansells you have linked to.

I just use the cheap ass gloves for weeding and general duties when I need them and for ride on work in the cold weather I use shakespear diving gloves.

Ive had to go back to the decade glove. The cheap ones off ebay or where ever they were from just didnt take enough vibration out. They seemed ok at first but my fingers started to go numb again.

Yep, the decade do the job best! I use them with the cheaper e*** ones and some fingerless ones - dependant on what equipment I am using. Must say I have been slack lately

i was using anti vibration gloves in winter. but now its warming i dont. however ive been getting trouble with my right elbow that ive never had before. started trying a tennis elbow wrist band by tenex and it helps heaps. no idea what it does but it stops the ache

I've been having elbow trouble too since I changed trimmers. Just can't get used to the Makita at all. I think it's to do with the size of the guard on it. When I use the old Jonsered for a job it just feels so different.

take it off - amazes me that people leave their guards on, they're purely cosmetic

The best cloves are hard worked hands with tough skin.. I only use cloves when I am pruning roses or boganvillia etc

I thought all contractors removed the guard.
If u know how, you can angle the snipper to limit the rocks etc flying everywhere.
Plus, you can see when verticle edging

As for gloves.... I get the large rose pruning garden gloves. Cheap from bunnings.
I have large hands and all the normal gloves never cover my hands.

I never have my guard on it makes my back ache, you cant get under trees properly, it slows you down. I have never damaged anything (yet touch wood) I find the guard doesnt realy stop that much anyway.. Thats just me

You don't need vision Paul. Use the FORCE.......hehe but seriously I'm not sure if I can see when I am vertically edging or not. It just sort of happens and turns out pretty good.

If you don't use a guard you have rocks in your head....I mean literally embedded in your skull!

I got in trouble the other day off an old lady.... She told me I had sprayed her "cloves" the previous week and it didn't work so I should use weed and feed instead.

Thats what face shields are for. I never had one hit me yet.. If you watch the head of a sniper most of the stuff goes out the side not even hitting the guard. I wear shorts all year round and to be honest never realy get hit in the legs either.

Don't take your guards off, if something goes wrong, legally you will be right up shytt creek.

Re Gloves:

I tried many different types, from $2 - $40. But settled on Pope. They are made of fairly tough leather (yellow), with green mesh on back to let air through. $12.60 fm Bunnings. If working in wet, just use cheap pvc gloves.
