Hi all
Got pull up by a nice policeman (for a breath test) and he just wanted to warn me that my open tray and high sided trailer was not enough to contain my mowers and equipment..and every item needs to be strapped in, even my rider which was in the 3ft high sided trailer and mower in front mower box...The fines for which would be upward of $120 for each loose item...even my esky and rake in the back of my sided trayback
So is an open top caged trailer and shadecloth cover over the trayback enough?? or does every item still need to be strapped in..
I was also warned They are blitzing on this at the moment...

I'd like them to tell me how to secure 20 chaff bags of grass in my high sided trailer....

Another shiny bummed bureaucrat has come up with another scheme for 'raising revenue' without increasing taxes.

Well every thing is now strapped in..
Even the esky..Hope it's enough to keep the cops happy..And every body safe..Can see a price increase coming for extra time and effort..
But after looking at that territory with a mower in the boot I can see what all the fuss is about ..

Having to secure your load, even a trailer with high sides is nothing new. Apparently items need to be secured sufficiently so they stay put in a roll over.
Can't remember if it was on this forum or a 4wd forum, a member was saying that the DOT were targeting boat owners for having loose items like fishing rods just lying on the floor of the boat.

Last year here when the restraints rule was starting to be enforced more the police would sit outside one particular landscape supplies yard. When Jo and Joette Bloggs would borrow the courtesy trailer from the landscape yard to take their mulch home the police were pulling them over plus every other person with a trailer or ute. Most tradies here now just have one of the throwover type nets which keeps police happy but isn't going to do much in a crash or rollover.

I just recently went to court with the police as they tried to say that my sides of my trailer being 120cm high was not acceptable to hae the machine secure. the judge disagreed with them and dismissed the case. I keep meaning to go to the court house and get a trnscript of the case so next time the cops are tryin to harrass me about it they can read it and **** off.

I will now put 2 tie downs on the mowers everytime, not just when I finish for the day. Everything else is tied down, well almost except for a few spray bottles and things. Better get that 2nd box under the tray for this small stuff
