Gday Everyone,

So a week and a half ago as i was driving my ears started ringing, as in a very high pitch ringing in both ears. Just seeing if anyone has experience with this and any recommendations. Have been to see a specialist who diagnosed it as tinnitus and have spoken to a naturopath aswell, plus alot of researching on the net.

From what i understand it may not be curable, so am searching for ways to reduce its severity as at the moment its causing a fair bit of discomfort and loud noise and vibration irritates it even more.

Any info or experiences would be greatly appreciated, am currently considering my future as a lawnmowing contractor and have everything on hold why i try to solve this problem

cheers

Depending on what has caused it you may get some relief from a chiropractor. One of the known causes is a neck alignment issue and chiro can help dramatically but if it is a result of damage to the ear from high decibel machinery it may not help.

Worth a try at least.

I get it a fair bit (ringing in the ears). To many years in the steel industry before ohs started cracking down on hearing protection plus loud music, drumming, etc. Its not nice and its something that can become permanent. I've heard of old guys that have committed suicide because they just couldn't stand it anymore. If that ringing goes on 24/7 I understand why they would do it.

See your doctor and get the best information you can on how to stop it getting any worse.

From what I know damage to your hearing is permanent. It's what I was told. No f*****r told me about ear muffs etc years ago when we were grinding all day to make minimum wage. My wife goes are'nt you listening, the kids are hard to hear. When it's quiet or you're trying to sleep all you hear is constant ringing. Went to the last Cold Chisel Concert and thought it was too loud. I go to the pub and basically lip read to find out what someone is talking about. I guess you go about life & it & age come at a price. Modern science is always progressing, so bring it on.

Thanyou everyone for your input, its greatly appreciated. Im off to see another doctor and get a referal to a ENT specialist. The more info i can get regarding this the better i think, which will hopefully lead to some sort of solution if not cure.

cheers

Hi MikeA
Tinnitus is very bad. I had it 17 years ago from driving tractors. Specialist took $140 from me to tell me I had ringing in the ears. There was no cure. Come back and see me in 6 months(and give him another $140 for nothing).
I self treated myself with acupressure and it helped. Go find an acupressure/acupuncture person to treat you.
When you get treated make sure you get the best hearing protection you can get. No point in letting it come back.
Cheers

tinnitus. oh my frikking god. Ive had it for over 17 years and ive HAD IT. it never leaves you alone and gets louder as the years roll on. the worst is when your angry. when you clench your jaw or facial muscles it gets so much louder. i do things like massage around my ears and jaw and focus on relaxing. when it really gets to me, i have found temporary relief in putting my palm just above my chin and my pinkiny finger in the ear canal(a little less than a centimeter in) and push the top of the ear canal outwards with your pinky nail with gentle pressure for a few seconds. somehow it makes the ringing a lot quieter. only lasts few minutes, but its better than nothing.
p.s. think im gonna take hjl's acupuncture advice.
