Hi there, just after some help quoting for this job. The client has said that they want the hedge neatened up and i clarified this with them to mean that they dont want too much trimmed off, just squaring up top and sides. I did a drive by to see if the hedge was within my capabilities and took some shots. As you can see the hedge is approx 2.5 to 3m high and runs the length of the block which would be about 50 m conservatively. I have the right equipment and a scaffolding ladder if required, but i could really do with somehelp quoting this job, as whilst i can trim a hedge, this one looks like a bit of work!:m fight

The photo is a bit dark to get a good understanding how long it will take. Maybe give them your hourly rate plus tipping charge if required along with a time estimate to complete the job if your not sure.

Or you could charge 5 hours plus tipping just to be sure.. Ask how much the last guy charged before saying anything
Cheers good luck looks like a good job

Who knows, Go have a proper look and a chat to them then if your still unsure Tell them you`ll give them a quote soon as you`ve had a think..But quoting off a drive by and google maps your bound to lose unless you`ve done 100`s of them...

Sure, I wouldn't give the client a quote without having a better look, just wanted a rough guide from people that have done hundreds of them.

looks like you'll need a 5 metre ladder for that hedge?

Why is that Chris ?

Looks more like the hedge is about 5 mtrs tall, I would be looking and measuring then come back to us with the height and length, do you have to do the neighbours side to.

yeh that's what i mean... Seems almost 5 metres tall and fairly wide so to do the top properly you would want some height to reach up and over

Really hard to tell, part of the hedge looks more like 5m, whereas the lower section looks more 2 to 3m. If you reckon the hedge is 50m that's half a footy field, so a lot of hedging, 2 sides and top. A lot of cleaning up too.
Minimum based on the above would be $500 plus for me, lots of other variables to consider like access, is the majority 2 to 3m etc.

Its not 5m high its maybe 3m high
the letter box is about 900mm - 1000mm and the hedge looks about 3 times the height of that

Correct! I judge heights at work using aerial booms and I'm certain you are correct. Nothing like having a closer look though!

Ed, from the pic it looks pretty good but, the most important thing to check is the top, thats where the real work is.
Check the hedgecutter will cut comfortably through it &, check the stretch.
Again,it does'nt look too bad but, will it be difficult getting your ladder in amongst those trees? & what's the access like on the other side?
Cheers Fred.

Today I went around and gave a quote for this hedge. I asked what he usually got charged and was told $750 and takes the chap and a sidekick two days. What is hidden from the road is the other side of the yard and its hedge which is higher and on steeper ground- you'd have to dig out level areas for the feet of the ladder, as if the other side wasn't difficult enough. My quote was something like ' beg borrow and steal to keep the bloke that's doing it, because if he is happy to be paid that over two days with an offsider and work up a ladder all day on that ground he's doing you more of a favour then an actual job'.

Maybe look at hiring some scaffold for a day. Might cost $100 but I am sure you would be done and dusted in 5-6 hours with the right stuff. still good money
