I have heard some real bad stuff about these critters and everyone seems to have a story on them. So has anyone ever been bitten or sighted one of these spiders, maybe I have but not even sure what to look out for. Seems in our line of work they should be something we know about.

one bit me and I died, but then I got better.............. apparently its all urban myth about their bites, and you're most likely to see them indoors or around human structures (I hate them and have sworn a jihad against the little bar$tards)

I was bitten by some kind of spider, got me twice on the thigh which showed up 2 red dots.I did feel the very noticable bites at the time.

It made me take a week off work as you feel lethargic, just complete loss of energy.Went to hospital to get checked and they said lucky the symptoms weren't a white tip.
That's why i went in just incase some early treatment could be done.

Same thing happened to a friend got bitten on the head and had same lethargic feeling,he was away working and spent a week in a motel room.

Just hope it's never a white tip spider as a well known footballer was bitten on the heal by one and that ended his career.(one of the guys on the footy show)

That just about sums it up nice and clear, so if they eat other spiders redbacks etc, are they a good spider?

We get lots of whitetails here in Melbourne. They are or can be quite aggressive. Love wondering around inside and getting under your dooner ,into your shoes etc. Wont kill you but can cause some serious damage. Tend to be the sort of bite that people react to in different ways . Some people react badly while others don't react at all. Mind you apparently there are a few different ones. I know a few people who have been bitten by them and ended up with blisters around the bite within a day. Antibiotics will fix it up but if left to long skin can start to die. My step dad was bitten by one on his thumb but he only had a bit of swelling and his thumb was all red. I've read that a lot of people don't even know they have been bitten. The big ones are a scary looking thing. You will know it if you see one ,they are generally all black with a white mark on the end of their tail.
