anyone had any experience in tapping spring water coming out of the ground???
we have a natural springs popping out everywhere and using a dam to collect and pumping we are thinking to tap immediately from where the spring rises to the surface thus eliminating contamination ..
have a few ideas of u tube biut wondering if any ideas come to mind ???
thanks

If you are able to drill hole with auger, drill then case with perforated casing (eg 6" PVC casing/sewer pipe).
Alternately drive in (hammer in) a 'collection spear' ... Basically a pointed steel tube with perforations.
The point to allow easy driving into ground and perforations to allow water to flow in.
Works best if your soil is sandy / gravelly.

The 'sand-spear' was something I used to sell when I worked in 4WD-Accessory sales years ago. They were popular for bottling fresh water when beach camping and could be combined with a solar pump. Not sure if they're still around. Could be worth checking out. Same principle as Joe mentioned above.

Forgot to add, that if you take the 'casing' approach, and you get too much 'sand' coming through the perforations,
Either you will need to 'slush pump' the hole from time to time or simply install a secondary liner with a mesh screen around it ( eg piece of tubing with metal flymesh bonded on) inside the main casing as the drawoff tube.

How much water are these springs making Geoff? If they 'make up' quick enough, then pumping directly out of a bore or sand spear would be easiest.
If not, a cleaner alternative of the dam might be what you are looking for?

How about putting something like a plastic grease trap (with the bottom cut out) where the water surfaces? This gives you a liner for about 1 foot for the water to settle a bit then run out of the outlet down a pipe to a tank excavated so it will gravity feed. That gives you a good volume of water that you can pump easily to where you need it.
Just a thought.

It would pay to check local regs before sinking a bore. I think you will find the taking of ground water is regulated in most states.

thanks for the ideas....we do have water rights dating back in time so no problems there.
the spring well there is many runs a a great knot after surfacing so probably go with edbeek idea, will have have heaps of flow under gravity then use a pump to run it into the tank..need to cover the small made dam to stop any impurities ...
