My first jobs are generally from 8am onwards (with the exception of a few commercial clients who require an earlier start.
During winter I'll work til 5, but during daylight savings I happily work til 7.30 if needed. Same as Imoww; work Saturdays if there are any jobs that I need to catch up on.

My wife works shift work as nurse so I work around her hours. If she works arvo I'll start early finish at 230 to pick kids up and if she works early I'll start late drop kids ooff at school and in laws and then work till dark. So I really don't worry to much about how many hours I do. This works good for me with sometime having to come home to takes kids to school or in laws and go back to work. I don't work weekends unless it's a great paying job . At the moment I have a great life style that suits me and my family and get to do all the great things on the weekend with the kids like soccer and little athletics and not have to worry about rushing off to work.

I do the school drop off and pick up three times a week, you pretty much get 5 and 1/2 hours can be stressful fitting it all in but works well for us and the kids :)

This week I have about 7 hours work lol

Judging by some posts you guys and girls are working too hard. Unless we are doing overtime we try to be done with the physical work by 2.30. After that time we do quotes and any machine repairs/maintenance that may need doing, so we are usually done with everything work related by 4/4.30. The job is too demanding on your body to be doing long days week in week out. It's been said over and over again, but it still rings true even today, work smarter not harder.

Still knocking back two jobs/calls or walk ups daily. It's the bold full all 4 sided signage on my trailer and hilux along with word of mouth. Filled up a jerry can up today and the service station operator asked me to do some work for her. Thank you, but no thankyou, enough to do already with no winter break. Plus need to get all the full day gardening jobs booked, completed before mid September.
At the moment starting work around 9.15-9.30 am due to dew/wetness + getting slack and finishing 4.00pm to give time to clean the mowers/fill sprayers, etc and then do invoices on MYOB.
But need to peg the business back just little after Easter next year if that can be done as I would like to somehow get a cruise in for my wife and I.

The big problem is getting time off full stop, as even over this winter I could not have gone anywhere with the work to cover between rain periods. Worked today (sat) and have a small staff carpark to re gravel tomorrow all for the same great customer.

But we would like a cruise from Sydney to Hobart across to Milford Sound, then to all major ports along New Zealands East Coast returning to Sydney. But the problem is when we get any chance of time off it will be when the Tasman Sea is nasty, super cold and access into Milfound Sound by a cruise ship may not be possible.
So one may think a cruise through Indonesia, Singapore, up to Hong Kong, Japan if the tour encase such.
We've done the magic Ol Fairstar Fiji party job back then. The other option is a flight to Hawaii.

Where timid to book because of getting proper clean time off being a sole trader, so maybe we'll hang off till I retire the business off or really slow it down for one year.
Its a goal to go somewhere over the rainbow and the tour brochures are on the coffee tables at home.

Re the other post in General Post, My daughter is flying Emirates with no Qantas codeshare on 3 Sept, so we will be seeing her off at Tulla with some moist eyes.

But having yapped about the adventures above, my wife is developing a worsening genetic neuro medical condition that is causing us to visit the Professor Elsdon Story - Head of Neurology at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne that is putting pressure on quality life as each year goes on.
Life is full of surprises and one may say live it up whilst you can, whilst one may also say save the coin for current and future medical costs.

Sorry, getting of topic a little.

Sometimes you just need to strike a line thru some pages in the diary 3 months out and stick to it.

Hey Gazza if you plan it you can do it. I have had a couple of trips to Bali in winter an we are going again next August. I strike out the time in the diary I plan on going then a couple of months out I give all my customers a letter saying I will be away from X date to X date. I then book all customers in before I go and again when I come back. There will be some that want it done in the middle so if you know some good Indi's in your area you can arange for them to do the work while you are away as well as any new jobs that pop up, I also tell all my customers that X will be available if they need anything and his phone number is ......... Greenie looked after my work the last couple of times.
Everyone needs a break mate you just gotta plan it.
Good luck with your wife mate.

I did the cruise on Royal Carribean last Dececember to Milford Sound and East coast NZ. It is really beautiful!! You have to go Gazza.
The December before we went to the Noumea and some islands near by.
This year we have booked in January to go to the islands again. It's very simple, I tell all my regulars I'm going to be away say in December, I try to do this a month or so out when I see them.
I then send a text a few weeks out that I'll be away and their next mow will be on xyz as the run is already done for when I come back before I go away.
No client has ever been upset or cracked it because I'm going away. Clients do understand we need to recharge our batteries.
By the way, I cent recommend Royal Carribean highly enough, the sevice is just outstanding!
Cheers

Thanks Guys, sorry for the temporary thread hijack imoww.
The Royal Carribean was one of the ships we are looking at, the recommendation is very helpful stehpenst.

I hear you guys loud and clear re allocating vacant pages in the diary, but ie, my diary is full into the next 2 weeks with regular clients with there extra bits and pieces before spring, same as last year. Then today 3 more calls come which I knocked all of them back, always knock back people I've never work for.

But need to get a cruise in before my wife balance/stability coordination on the feet prevents a trip in the coming immediate years and the best way I can describe my wife's condition is that over the past 4 year she has started to walk like a 'Thunderbirds Puppet" sounds funny in explanation but not funny. Neurology Specialists can't cure and are struggling to slow her condition as within each year the family see her worsen. We and the Professor traced it back to genetics within her family tree in London with the help of Facebook. Science doesn't understand all the genes and the known researched genes have all been tested with no findings, but brain scans show it.
