Hi all :wave-hi:
Just wondering at what hrs most of you guys would trade in your machines?
I've put about 150hrs on mine since I bought the buisness (now has ~ 350hrs - John Deere 717A), so mines still a way off yet but I've heard different things from people from 800 or 1000 and even people who run them into the ground. :i dunno: :i dunno:

Never have traded in a mower. Thought about trading in a honda SP hru215, but with the price offered by the dealer, I was better off keeping for spares.

I actually rebuilt the engine and got another year from the old girl before I got the clicketty click death notice from the gearbox. (If anybody has successfully rebuilt the gearbox in a HRU215SP, I would be interested to hear how it went. They are not difficult to work on - very basic actually.

The GXV140 engine was the best engine Honda produced IMO, and can be rebuilt cheaply. I did most of the work myself, the dealer mechanic fitted the new rings and checked the valves. If you have kept the air clean, and changed the oil, they do not even need to be bored out. Cost me $100 all up.

A cheap option when the pig 216 is the next step, if you are too old to push.

Cheers Gary

I turn my mowers over ever 18 months. The last 216 I put on ebay and got $720 minus fees $685. So all I needed was an extra $580 to pay for the new 216.

Seems the way to go Lancat, if you like the 216.

However, I own a 216 and prefer the old 215's. They are not as heavy,
appear to have the better gearbox, (Judging by the problems posted on this forum ) and the great gxv140 engine.

I have been buying traded 215's (in near new condition) to avoid getting another 216, and will not buy a new SP until Honda brings out
a decent new model.

When my old 215's have been around the world twice, and are totally
beyond help, they will become spare parts machines.I have 4 215's &
1 216 (chinese pig)

I run them into the ground then rebuild in non growing season when I have a bit more time up my sleave, I have 3 waiting for me to rebuild atm and if they are past being rebuilt, I just pull them apart and keep all the spares.

I'm just about to buy a "World Mower" honda engine, 3 speed french gearbox so that you don't have the honda gearbox troubles, 21 inch cut, mulch or catch, $1,050.00, lighter than the 216 so I am definately getting it, gotta be better than the crap Honda are selling at the moment...apart from their motor the rest is crap.

There's a SP World mower on EBAY at ATM Lethal. The guy says its a contractor's mower that's done 3 months work & the SP doesn't work (he's gonna repair it for the buyer)

That doesn't sound like a much of a step up in the gearbox dept to me lol! :i dunno:

Has anyone out there actually personally repaired a 215 gearbox
and stopped the dreaded clicketty click?

How bout the ride ons? Mines worth about 15K new and the guy I bought the business off says he used to trade every 800hrs to get the best trade in possible but seems a bit of overkill to be. :i dunno:

sorry for double posting but I just remember the guy at the mower shop told me they used to use the same gearbox as the hondas but now they have gone to this french made thing as apparently they have proven to be much more reliable...I dunno, maybe its utter bs :i dunno:
