On this forum lawnies have asked what,s the best ride on , self drive mower, scrub cutter etc,
I am wondering what is the most powerful blower (forget the vac)
I want some hand held machine (not a back pack ) that will do the same thing as Marilyn Munroe's dress, de virgin a virgin, blow cubic meters off the paths , drives etc.
What is the gruntiest blower and what cc's
Cheers Worzel :wave-hi: :wave-hi:

Another vote for the BG 85.

I also have an Echo 2455 which does the job as a spare / back up, but it can't compete with the Stihl.

Hi bgs, yes you can the bg 65 "retro" fitted with the attatchments. I had it set up to vac a small courtyard for a client, but have found it useful in picking up small amounts of leaves as well, but a bit tedious and slightly awkward to hold for any long lengths of time.. but its horses for courses......

I have a Shindiawa 240s and an Echo 2455.
The Shindaiwa is great, realy gutsy, very quiet and starts easily every time.

Another vote for the Stihl BG85. The previous one finally died after almost 7 years hard labour.

I sometimes find my BG 85 can be quite hard to start on a hot day.

Two ways i've found to fix it are to leave it for an hour or so & use the backup Echo. Or, run a cold tap & put it under for half a minute. Sounds strange, but it works every time !! ;)

I had similar problem with starting.
Ballsed up a batch of 2stroke mix and accidental like gave the Sthil a drink of 25/1.
It loves it, dunno why, maybe seals up the gaps a bit better.
Goes like me on OP.
Bit smokey but, so back off a bit in the cool.
Give it a burl.

Thanks guys for the advice on the starting issues and the mulch/vac :wave-hi:

It seems Sthil, Shindi or echo are the way to go.

I don't understand Worzel, what's happening? :who-knows

Is it a problem when you try and reply?

No
I mentioned how this forum was great for contractors passing info on the best machines etc and not listening to dealers pushing their product.
My posts are being wiped out by one of the 3 Deans.
Since I am over here I can't buy any products.
Still a good site to learn stuff.
After this if it gets through I might have to be a watcher instead of contributing.
Thanks for asking :) :) :)

I know how you feel Worzel. Admin needs to have some type of guideline listed on what can & can’t be posted. I to have had posted deleted without any reason given.
Come on Admin Please list the guidelines. The guys that put effort into helping others find it very disheartening to have their posts deleted without reason.

Just chasing feedback - did you try 25/1 or 33/1 in place of 50/1 mix.
My Bg has a new lease of life.

G'day I have always run it on 25:1 maybe I should try 33:1, I think my problem is heat related and similar to NGWL , Its fires first go in the mornings with out drama the only time it has been hard to start is in the middle of the day or after prolonged use.

Next time it happens I might try the cold tap trick.

Same here....I run a BG85 and find it very good except when its hard to start every now and then on a roasting hot Perth day...

I've always run (Shell) NON-Stihl 2 stroke oil but i'm thinking i'll swap to proper stihl oil next (That is when this 20L drum finally runs out :i dunno: )......their recommendation to run NON-Stihl oil mixes at 25:1 is no good in my experience. The machine loses power, is smokey and the exhaust gets blocked quicker. I run about 30:1 and have no probs.

Any reason why some run Stihl oil over normal (Shell...etc..) 2-stroke oils......anyone tried both?

I may be wrong.
Enviro people have put pressure on all hydrocarbon mixes.
Benzine/Benzadrine ? replacements for lead are not a great
substitute. Carcinogenic don't you know?
I feel that maybe some of the fuel blokes are trying to take
the flack off 2 strokes by going to 50/1 and more.
pushing it to the limit to keep 2 strokes envo-viable:
There's a new word for ya..

On your posts it appears to be a fuel mix prob.
Normally I would Diss admin's fuel conditioner suggest.
It is a good fix for long stored old fuel.
We do not store fuel for long, so a stale mix is not the prob.
But, If gear runs better & easier on it - I'll give it a try.
The good news is that fuel conditioner that Admin sells
has the same OP% as Bundy. If the mowers don't start then
"I'll drink to that"

I have been in this game since 2001, and have only used Stihl equipment other than honda mowers, of course.

Stihl blowers (BG85) and brushcutters (FS85) in my experience have a dislike of very hot weather, the blower is the worse of the two.

I learnt very quickly to always put the blower in shade before each use, and this certainly did help.

I always joke that when the blower doesn't want to start due to the heat, then it's time to knock off cause it's too hot - but we all know that's not an option when you've got 7 jobs to go.

I have always used the Stihl 50:1 oil, but I have never tried the fuel
conditioner as suggested by admin. It is something I will try next summer if I have trouble.

After reading Mongooses specs I bought myself a 1 KW Tanaka. This is a grunty machine.
But I used a Stihl 85 the other day and it seemed more powerful even though the Tanaka has a slightly bigger motor.
Probably the size of the impellor maybe.
For reliability my Dolmar was tops.
No repairs in 8 years apart from maintenance :wave-hi: :wave-hi:

Hi Worzel Does that mean you are happy or not with the Tanaka ? Is your Dolmar a 2 stroke or 4 stroke blower .

worzel

Hi Mongoose
My 1kw Tanaka is excellent so far. Heaps of grunt for a hand held
I have only had it 2 months.
My Dolmar is a 28cc 2 stroke. Still starts and goes great but when you use the same machine year after year you don't realise how gutless it is getting until you pick up a newer machine.
That Stihl 85 is really grunty.
I have found Dolmar gear extremely reliable and except for worn out clutches in my trimmers (caused by too thicker line, too much line out when running them with no guard ) they are great.
Cheers Worzel :wave-hi: :wave-hi: :wave-hi:
