Hi Guys & Girls. I’ve been meaning to post and upload this check list for ages. Those of us that have Honda mowers will at some stage have trouble with ruff idling, fuel leaking from the carby and other fuel related problems. This check list describes and illustrates how to solve your problem.

Very few tools are required. Only special tool required is a small piece of wire for cleaning inside the jets. I use a small piece of wire from my wire brush to do this with.
A cheap Can of Carby Cleaner and a source of compressed air to blow through the carby.

(Sorry I was not able to upload a Hi Res Picture. If you would like me to email the 2Meg PDF file to you PM me your email details and i will email it to you at the end of the week)

I had a question on what can causes fuel to leak all over the outside of the carbie and that the motor appears to run ok

I most cases it’s the fuel float valve or valve seat. A small amount of dirt builds up on the valve or on the valve seat.

Remove the fuel bowl and the pin that holds the fuel float. The valve is attached to the float in this case. Gently use your finger nail to clean away any dirt. You may not see anything with your eye, as a clear lacquer can build up on the valve and valve seat. Use carbie cleaner to do the same with the valve seat.

The fuel float is not adjustable. So don’t attempt to bend anything. If you do you will most likely brake the float.

Ensure the seal between the fuel bowl and carbie is not damaged and sitting correctly

Hi gjs, I have found my shop manual that I have been searching for about 5 yrs :D :D It looks like it will have everything you need in it. I will scan and upload it in the next couple of weeks as I am a little busy at present :i dunno: the good lady has me doing a few things for her :who-knows

No rush I have two HRU 216 mowers that are still good except for motors. I figured if I can repair them cheap enough they would still be OK to use, if not I will get a replacement motor for them again depends on price, usually easier to by a new mower.

Regards
Garry

Well...SUCCESS!!!

First timer here just pulled the carby off my 216 and cleaned all the jets.
Now running like a dream... :russ:

Thanks again to Lancat and admin (and everyone) for all the info on the carby's, it was a hugh help to me :)

This is what makes this forum such a great thing, saved $90 bucks I reckon DIY instead of taking it to the dealer

A 10 mm socket and 10mm ring spanner , and a pliers is all that is needed.

Only troublts i have with my older mower is dirt in fuel occasionally which requires roadside rebuild.

Oh and a can of CRC, basically take it apart blow with mouth the holes after washing it with crc and rebuild it and off it goes again. 15 mins downtime.

The reason why i dont use wire to clean the holes etc.. is fuel is gravity fed so if your own breath ( pressure) cant clean it then by forcing a wire ,etc can actually force it in ( maybe) ... just a little trick learnt when playing with cars and carbies .

HAve put a finer filter ( car) small one inbetween carby and tank and havent encountered anymore problems in the last 4 mths so far .

My 3 y/o HRU 196, was backfiring, and stopping, I pulled the fuel tank and cleaned the carby main jet, goes like a new one, easy to work on.very happy with Honda Quality.
