Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme
Be rewarded for buying and installing water smart products in your home
The Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme has been extended for four more years from 1 July 2007, with some exciting new products.

New products included in the rebate scheme:

Hot water recirculating devices that help save the cold water which initially comes out of the hot water taps when first turned on. These devices redirect the cold water in the hot water pipes back into the household water supply until hot. This ensures that water is not wasted.
The rebate for water efficient showerheads has been split into two rebates – the existing rebate of $10 for showerheads costing between $30 and $100, and a new rebate of $20 for showerheads costing over $100. In addition, households can now claim two showerhead rebates per eligible property.
Four new products have been added to the basket of goods ($30 rebate when the purchase of one or more products with a COMBINED VALUE of $100 or more is made). These include:
rainwater diverters
waterless car cleaning products
shower timers
toilet flush interrupter devices
Since January 2003 there has been an overwhelming response to take part and help save water. More than 177,000 rebates have been approved helping Victorians save more than 1.6 billion litres of drinking water a year.

From 1 January 2007, Victorians on a reticulated water supply have been eligible for rebates of up to $1000 on the purchase and installation of a large rainwater tank connected to your toilet and/or laundry and installed by a licensed plumber.

If you bought and installed an eligible product before 30 June 2007 you have until 30 September 2007 to claim a rebate under the existing terms and conditions.

Claiming a rebate
How do I get the rebate?
You can claim your rebate by downloading and completing the attached Rebate Claim Form (PDF - 100Kb). Alternatively, you can call DSE's customer service centre on 136 186 or obtain a form from your local water business, hardware, plumbing supplies or garden retailer.

Do I need to attach my receipt and proof of installation?
Yes. All the information about what you need to attach is on the claim form.

When does the product need to be purchased and installed?
To be eligible to claim a rebate, the product needs to be purchased and installed between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2009.

Applications for all rebates must be submitted by 30 September 2009.

How long does it take to get my rebate?
For most products, you will receive the rebate on your next water bill.

For the large tank rebates of $500, $900 or $1000, you can have the rebate credited to your water account or sent via cheque or Electronic Funds Transfer within 10-12 weeks of applying.

How many rebates can I claim?
You can claim one 'core product' rebate over the life of the program, for each eligible property that receives a water bill. If you have already claimed a tank rebate prior to 1 January 2007, you are still eligible for a rebate for a large tank connected to your laundry and/or toilet. For the basket of goods you can claim one rebate per calendar year for each eligible property. Terms and conditions apply and can be found on the back of the claim form.
