Trailer Registration

Hey All ,
Just realised that my trailer is registered for private use . Does everyone have their trailers registered for business use ?

Mine is registered for business use. From what i have heard if you have an accident with the trailer on while working you may not be covered for insurance if your trailer is only privately registered.

No idea if it is true or not, but not worth the risk so i would recommend business rego for sure.

I would also assume that if ATO ever looks at you, they will deny any claim for the trailer as a business expense if it's registered for private use.

In Victoria police fines are up to 180.00 for not haveing your trailor registered if conducting a business.

I just contacted VicRoads, and there is no difference to them if it is registered to a business or privately. The fee is the same. And there are no issues in regards to insurance, police, etc.

In fact she strongly suggested I leave it private as if I ever wanted to move it back, there would be fee's.

The main thing is that the trailer is registered.
