Amazing how active has grown in the last 10 years!
I think they set the standard in the lopping industrie. Altough tree lopping is pretty well saturated (like mowing) Active would have no competition. They offer services on a broad scall and are very well equipt! They don't do any climbing, all up work is done from cherry pickers and cranes etc. Very well set up buisness from what I can see and have the cream of the crop as far as market share goes!

I think we can all learn alot from a buisness like Active. I know I strive and aspire for buisness goals that would take my buisness to the standard and market share that Active holds now.

So what would you all say Active have done right, from the begining to get them to where they are now?
Lets talk about what advantages they have over the rest of the lopping industrie and how they got them.

Mabey we can all learn somthing?

I'l start by listing a few advantages that Active have that might put them ahead of the pack.

1/ Large involvment in charity. Good way to get there name out and IMO that helps costmers fell more secure when hiring them.

2/ Offering prizes for people that work in different parts of the industrie sector. Ie You register your name and then refer your existing clients to Active when they need any kind of tree services and for every qoute Active get they put a mark next to your name. once you reach 10 qoutes you get $200 gift voucher for a dinner.
Bloody good way to bag work! Putting this kind of thing togeather and getting the word out out to local horticulturlists/ gardeners, Bobcat opperators, tree services, nurserys etc. Even hairdressers etc It's definatly somthing I'm going to look at.

3/ They offer consultancy.
Finding reliable green keeper to sub contract or hire as casual and offering consultancy on problam lawns, new lawns, fert programs etc. would be a great service to offer.

First time i have looked at this section.

Fair points there indeed. I have been approached by a holiday company as i'm sure most of you have to purchase holiday packages. The last one was 10 weekend hols, good places to stay as well. The cost was 200 or 300 not sure which now. Either way it was cheap.

As the guy said he gets a lot of builders buying them and in turn he gives them to clients or contractors etc etc.

I will be buying them next time and will look at how best to use them.

Promotion, communication and proffessionalism key to survival.

I reckon they turn over about 20 million :who-knows at a guess

“Tree lopper” gangs, often operating without workers compensation insurance can sue home owners for compensation if they are injured when working in your property.

Well you might be right could be more turnover working out who they do work for on their site and the huge amount of trucks chippers and cherry pickers employees and subbies and stuff it was only a educated guess Not cheap to run government tenders such as they go for is good money .Governments also have a preffered supplier list sometimes they just run with who they are used to paying

i know a guy that runs 30 cherry pickers in Qld so have a fair idea .

id say their turnover just by the number of ewps & chippers would be more like 50 million , plus climber & other plant so could be as high as 70 mill , just to run a single truck with 2 men can cost around 200 k per yr so with over 225 trucks n chippers do the sums ;dealers;

Taken from there website "Active Tree Services is Australia’s largest vegetation management company. We have more than 600 staff, offices in every state, a substantial fleet of specialist equipment and annual revenue of more than $100 million."

The original posts are fairly old though. I am unsure what there situation is for the original posts are they after sub contractors or they wish us to give them our work although i dont stuff around with any trees that are in there league.

Active here in Sydney started to get big with the Council contracts/ powerline lopping. So you can imagine. Every street in sydney needs to be checked and seen to.

They invested in the right management and admin team id say. Can someone write my contract proposals and OH&S forms for me?
