Young Jrs Sailors Of The Sea
Came From Land To The Navy
Lads Who Mean Just What They Say
Just To Wear The Leeuwin Beret

Wearing There Hearts Upon There Chest
These Boys Were Australias Best
They Came At 16 And To This Day
Just To Wear The Leeuwin Beret

Trained To Be A Sailors Hand
Which Made A Boy Into A Man
Men That Fight By Night And Day
Just To Wear The Leeuwin Beret

Blood And Sweat And Tears Each Year
Whithout Remorse Or Whithout Fear
The Boys Would March All Through The Day
Just To Wear The Leeuwin Beret

Side By Side They Would Stand
You Will Never Find A Better Man
He Was Allways Happiest On This Day
Just To Wear The Leeuwin Beret

And At Night As You Sleep
Your Shores He Will Keep
Because Every Single Navy Day
He Loves To Wear His Leeuwin Beret

Amen :

G'Day fellow Walton/Collins 48th members.
I am Mike Harvey formerly of Walton 48th. I haven't seen or had contact with anyone from the old Division except Steve Crnkovic, who I catch up with every month or so.
I left the Navy in 1981 and joined SAPOL and left that in 1987. I currently work for Hilton Hotel Corporation and have been with them for the last 12 years.
It is great to think that after all this time we can hopefully catch up and sink a few coldies and renew old friendships. My email is harveymj@hotmail.com and it would be great to hear from you.
Cheers and all the best

Mike

PS This site is an excellent idea, congrats to those who have instigated it.

Bell Bottom Trousers

Once there was a little girl who lived next to me
And she loved a sailor boy, he was only three
Now he's on a battleship in his sailor suit
Just a great big sailor but she thinks he's very cute

(With his bell bottom trousers, coat of navy blue
She loves her sailor and he loves her too)

When her sailor boy's away on the ocean blue
Soldier boys all flirt with her but to him she's true
Though they smile and tip their caps and they wink their eyes
She just smiles and shakes her head, then she softly sighs

(Oh, bell bottom trousers, coat of navy blue
She loves her sailor and he loves her too)

When her sailor went to sea to see what he could see
She saw that he ate spinach, now he's big as he can be
When he's home they stroll along, they don't give a hoot
She won't let go of his hand, even to salute

If her sailor she can't find on the bounding main
She is hopeful he will soon come home safe again
So they can get married and raise a family
Dress up all their kiddies in sailor's dungarees

(Oh, bell bottom trousers, coat of navy blue
She loves her sailor and he loves her too)

******************

Bell Bottom Trousers Commonly believed that the trouser were introduced in 1817 to permit men to roll them above the knee when washing down the decks, and to make it easier to remove them in a hurry when forced to abandon ship or when washed overboard. The trousers may be used as a life preserver by knotting the legs.
************************************************** *********
We wore these and very proud but alas the navy has got rid of them so shout aloud

What does the navy know when a sailor wants to put on a show i guess the future sailors will never know

Tonymak
19-05-2006, 06:03 PM
That was a great couple of verse.
And the information on the bell bottom trousers is very informative for those
who wish to know the history of the clobber..

Hey Guys,

Just seen that there are a few of the Divisional staff still not contacted. Mike Tindale, Blue Baker and Reg Johnson all settled in Perth as far as I know. Mick Hyland went to Adelaide. Greg Evens lived in the Nowra area. I will see if I can find Greg. Maybe someone who lives in perth can have a look for the WA guys. I know Mike Tindale had a brother Dave who was also in the navy. Dave lives in Perth as well. I also believe that Max Turner is in the west.

Dean Said Pictures Are Required Of Hmas Leeuwin From Any Intake
Parade Ground Drill Hall Education Block Church Etc

As There Is A Severe Shortage Of Australias Hmas Leeuwin Naval History
FOR THE THOUSANDS OF LADS THAT WENT THROUGH THAT PLACE THERE MUST BE MILLIONS OF PICTURES

This Is Where Its Going To Achieve Its Best Result
There Will Be A Prize For The Winning Photograph

THE NAVY SHOULD BUY BACK HMAS LEEUWIN OF THE ARMY WHAT WERE THEY THINKING

Great job guys. It would be unbelievable to catch up with everyone for the reunion. I heard from Paul Tolson was in Canada as a submariner and Wayne Blackmuir was an engineer at the Cairns Naval Depot. Keep me in touch when and where the reunion will be as I now live in Florida, USA. Harrison S116879

The “Iron Lady” – HMAS Diamantina 1

River Class Frigate / Oceanographic Research Ship

http://images6.theimagehosting.com/HMAS_DIAMANTINA_circa1945.jpg (http://www.theimagehosting.com)

Between survey cruises, DIAMANTINA assisted in the Royal Australian Navy training programme by giving junior recruits from HMAS LEEUWIN the opportunity to train at sea. During the Royal Visit to Western Australia in March 1963, she was escort to the Royal Yacht BRITANNIA.

DIAMANTINA’s role as a survey and training ship continued into the 1970s.

Now heres a buety to remember HMAS ACUTE i remember (dean)clearly firing the 50mm machine gun at 40 gallon drums and getting a huge erec rush lol ;frosty;
now i dont know who was running the Navy between 1980 and 90 but they sold a fair load of our history back then

HMAS Acute (P-81) was an Attack-class patrol boat laid down by Evans Deakin and Company at Brisbane in Queensland, launched on 26 August 1967 and commissioned on 26 April 1968. Acute paid off on 6 May 1983, transferred to the Indonesian Navy and renamed Silea.

You know i just noticed Dean Bartorelli was born the same day that the HMAS Acute was lAUNCHED now doesnt that pickle your grandmother

Thats a rip snorter of an aerial pic if you look at the large view. The whole place is over run with trees around the perimeter now. Have a ook at the pic below which was taken from the Swan River on my way to Rotto (I never did that while at Leeuwin - so I took the chance when I had it) last Sep. I was spewing as the camera broke that night and couldt take any pics when I visited Leeuwin the next day.

Great pics Graham. Ahhhh the old Swan Brewery.. I remember whenever we were on the River Rock, everytime that we passed it we would salute it with our pots or jugs, then sling them overboard.. It's a real shame about your camera as it woulda been great to see what it looks like inside Leeuwin these days..

It was a printing/copying business in Thomas Street (MBE).

I found this copy in the bottom of a box, but I am also trying to find others that I had sent home from Leeuwin at that time.. The copy that I posted here is very tired and worn. But I thought that it would be great to post here for a perminant record for those who wish to copy it to their pc as I am, then burn it to cd so it remains forever..
I hope that you and Dean do find more from the archives as I am very interested in seeing all myself...
I tried a few years ago to track down 'Navy Quarterly' & a few other publications that were around at that time, but was told that they had never heard of them..

Hi All,
It appears I have started a new thread instead of replying to this one you guys have started... :i dunno:
Sorry about that...
anyway here is what I sent...

Hi guys,

Kev Slavin here signing in for the first time..
Who's Kev Slavin????

I was the quiet, shy, skinny one who shared a donga with
Stephen Sale, Bruce (I think) Rhubein and "Barney" Ruppelt.
Coming up the stairs, we were at the end of level 2 on the right. At the end on the left was
Swannson, Sylvester, Smith and Tacey (I think)...
Stephen Sale and I used to Fabulon the deck outside our Donga so the guy doing rounds could slip over.

I am so glad you guys have taken the time on this and look forward to getting involved and catching up at the reunion. We have a lot to chat and laugh about...

I have been lucky enough to get back to Leeuwin a few times. The first time I actually had a walk through our block. How did we fit anything in those lockers??
The next time I went over our blocks had been completely renovated and was office space. Maybe we should have the reunion in the west and do a tour of the place....could throw in a couple of laps of the parade ground (minus the bedding)for old times sake.

Anyway better get some work done..

G'day Kev,
Yeah I remember you very well mate.. These 30 odd years have passed by very quickly and it is great that this thread has started so we can all get together again..
I shared my cabin with Jake McLaren, George McKenzie and Bernie Nihil, top deck 2nd cabin on the right..
I remember that parade ground very well, as I spent quite a few days doing MUP's upon it.. To tell you the truth, I began to like doing MUP's as (parade ground only) as I felt very fit and healthy after doing it.. The rest of MUP's was a pain in the bum doing galley and other duties that I really didn't care for, especially losing leave entitlements.. But looking back I still have a good laugh about it..
It's very good to see you again Kev!.
Take good care,
Tony...

I am a "ring in" from 28th intake and at the invitation of Graham have joined your Forum for interest among other things. We also have a website and forum and I am the admin/moderator and chief bottle washer.

I invite you to eyeball my site (yes I am financing it) so I call it mine even though it's for all the boys who joined with me.

I know from experience of assisting in the trackdown of boys for the 2004 HMAS Darwin commissioning crew reunion how much work goes into it and also organising the reunion activities. Anything you remember may help so I would advise posting it here. I have heard rumours and have family members not even knowing the whereabouts of their siblings and have firstly found them and reunited all concerned. :who-knows I even have one friend from sea cadet days living in Poland trying to track down a "playboy" in the european circuit. Some of the stories... :i dunno:

Hello to Wayne Blackmuir (Stalwart CPO's mess 1988) now an officer I believe and BC Klimeck (cabin mates Harman 1976) paid off as a Supply Officer.

To whomever is doing the search...

I have just revisited schoolfriends at: http://www.schoolfriends.com.au/

looking for any new information of my intake and noticed several names with 1974-75 alongside the names. Have you guys had a "bopeep" there for lost souls at all
__________________________________________________ _______

I also received this information from the Greenies website.

Hint 1: A search of the National Archives web site either as a registered searcher (registration is free) or a guest, may bring up the person you're searching for and give you their Official Number, DOB and place of enlistment. Unfortunately, no other information is available from the NAA site, but at least the information that is available would be a starting point.

Also maybe worth a visit to the Australian Electoral Office where at no cost you can search the alpha microfiche State by State & Territory. My next stage Take a pen and paper in the event you find several matches for the name and follow them up either by telephone or post for those aren't listed in whitepages.

Hint 2: Check the Greenies Email listings first, before making an entry, to see if the person you're searching for is already on our lists. If you are not registered yourself, you can register here and then make your search in a day or so.

Hint 3: If you know the area/location where the person resides, please check the Telstra White pages , before making an entry here as this may give you his/her address and phone number if it's not a silent number.

Well I have been saying hello to individual people here on this site. As you've probably noticed I have with a few here already..
But if you want to write to anyone offsite eg email, go to this site which has everyones email address's..

http://www.walton-collins-48th.com/Reported_for_Duty.html

Everyone has been given an email address for contact.. It has been done this way for our security reasons.. Say if you use my email address that has been given on that site
( mcdonald@walton-collins-48th.com ),
it directs it straight to my everyday use email address.. (as you already know)
I hope that I have explained it clearly for you Jake..
Goodluck Jake.. :D

Hi Johnno, Yeah mate have been along your track. I'm registered with Gunplot, NAA, and pussers greenies. That's where I first found a few old Leeuwin shipmates. After spending a year living with these guys you think we would have stayed more in contact. But typically we were dispersed from there all over the country for training in our chosen vocations. As I recall pussers chose mine for me. I wanted to be a cook but someone some where said ET. Great ETC sounds good, so they made me an ETS ah well.
Thanks for putting all the links in one page it makes searching a lot easier.
Best wishes to all.
I hope to make it to Melbourne (currently living in Mt Gambier SA) about July 18 for a one night stop over, would love to catch up with as many as possible for a chat and one or two of CUBs finest. :i dunno:

Hi Mate,
Yes I can see them now. I logged on at home last night to finish some work and they all came up (which I thought they might). It now confirms to me that the firewall at work has done something with them, although it did let some through as you could see. Got your message the other day good to hear your voice. sorry I was away from the desk but will catch up when i get back from overseas.

guys,

I have just read a great article on JRTE Leeuwin in the official newsletter of the HMAS Sydney & VLSVA (VIC) called Leeuwin - Australia's boy sailors.

It is 8 pages with pics from the era of the 1967 (17th intake) perspective. There is one aerial pic of the base with older WW2 nissen huts instead of E-G blocks on the hill, no new galley, JSC, canteen building either.

Also some of the bastardry, assaults, cowardly beatings from senior intakes, picking on weaker kids etc was mentioned. ;dealers; I was only a small kid then but if I saw any of that happening especially from my own intake when senior, I would have a "right go" at them for that. I didnt care who they were and once got a broken nose for butting in. I got that bastard back L8tr too :p

G'day Johnho,

The newsletter would have been great to look at and read. Especially the old builings that it once was..

I myself never saw any bastardy while I had my stay at Leeuwin (though I did want to thump an AB smartarse, but he put me in and I did MUP's for it), but I spose it probably was there without seeing any of it myself.. I also read an article about some bastardy that went on back in 67/68.. I will put a link here so you or any others that may want to read it.. The link is from Gunplot and there is a fair read about the affair. It also has official documents posted there as well ( the names of those accused have been blackened)..

Ok, here is the link to that thread as follows:-
http://www.gunplot.net/gbb/viewtopic.php?t=223

Anyway mate, if you could post some of the pics from the newsletter here I would be most interested in looking at them..

Just a quick one...Any of your guys living in Wagga NSW ?

One of my intake lives there (ex middy and Crown SGT NSW Police). I have his postal address but not answering mail and has a silent number as you would if you were a copper.

So I need a favour for someone to visit his residence (The local coppers will not do it for me)

I dunno what happened Johnho, I just clicked on the link to make sure that it is working and I didn't have a problem with it at all.. But, I have noticed at times that, it sometimes goes down and reopens again after a while..

No worries mate about the pics, thanks for the offer so I could scan your book. Never mind,it was nice of you to offer the loan but maybe another time..
If I knew of anyone in Wagga, I wouldv'e helped you out trying to track down your mate.. Goodluck with your search..

Hey All,
This is to the administrator. Those words you quoted were very kind. We, the Divisional Staff were not infalable in fact we all made mistakes. All you guys performed well but like any large group of people there are always a few who which not to conform. The time at Leeuwin (4 years) was some of the best time of my career which as of the 8th May 06 was 41 years. You all must remember that you the JRs were the ones that made the Divisional Staff look good.(In some cases we were Ha).

Keep up the good work

Leeuwin was great its a shame other Australian Lads will not get the chance to experience what we did. Cerberus is only threee months training as a recruit and they bond fairly well together but never like the bonds of a Leeuwin Recruit .16 year old lads are decaying in the streets at least some of them could of had an option come on Australia lets re open HMAS Leeuwin . :aus-flag:

Hi John, how long ago did you apply? I put in for mine adn (posthumously) for my Brother's about 3 months back. Do they acknowledge receipt of applications or just send them out? I'm not so fussed about mine but would like to pass my Brother's on to his son (s).

Hey does this thing log you out if you don't use it for a while :i dunno: I was logged in, took a phone call for about 15 minutes then came back and posted an entry it showed up as un registered.
Not to matter the previous post about The Defence Medal is from me.
Hey was over in Melbourne the other week and caught up with Graham & Cranky for an ale and dinner. The guys may be a year older but there was no doubt who they were when I first saw them.
I had a great night just chatting about that year in the west. Old mates from way back and the 30 odd years inbetween then & now. We have to get some form of get together happening real soon. Even if it's just a Southern zone thing. My wife & I are planning a canoeing trip late September/early October accross to Melbourne , Lakes Entrance and up the East coast to some lakes around Newcastle then over to Mudgee for a family (hers) reunion and home via Deniliquin. If any one lives along that route let me know and we'll catch up for a chat.
Anyway back to work.

I just read through the latest (Dec 74) Broadside. A bunch of name leapt out ( mostly the OCs that put the paper together) Remember the officer candidates? Know your Div staff was prepared by Peter Gorman, Pete dropped out of the OC scheme and became a S rate greeny. He and I joined Vendetta about the same time in '76. From there the officer aspirations got the better of him and as a Kellick he attended RMIT achieving an Electronics Engineering Degree I believe he went on to become a Weapons Electrical Officer.
OC Perrin also dropped out of the scheme and went on to become a P rate greeny. I last saw him aT HMAS Watson as a PO in '86. Then he appeared on my TV one night the State Secretary of the NSW RSL. There were a couple of other OCs names I remember but never crossed paths with again. I Vaguely Recall Maykin went to the Greeny school as well but didn't finish the course.
Interseting also to read the safe wishes for Christmas from every one, including Chaplain Cooling. He was the well respected gentleman that came to SA and collected a rowdy bunch of 16 year old boys (15 July 1974). Needless to say Christmas couldn't have been all that safe for Kinang. Cyclone Tracey blew his home town off the map that year.
Any way, to work

G'day Deedubs,
Good to see ya here mate.
Yes, there is alot of interesting reading within those Broadside dits. They are all I can find at this point. But if anyone else has any copies, I personally would love to read them.
Kinang and his family went through hell that Christmas morning of 1974. I remember being on leave in Melbourne and I applied to be volunteer to go up there and help out. But they turned my offer down..
Here is his story that he wrote in the Febuary Edition.. I know that I have already posted this, but since it came from the first edition after coming back off leave, it should be here.. These are the only remains of that edition that I have.. But great reading all the same.

Guys,
I wonder if any of your birdie members can remember anything about the death of one of my members LSATC Moore. His records show DEE 18 April 1977.

This is all I have on my ole mate Pony who wecalled bucky cos of his front teeth. He drove a mini clubman GT.

MOORE GREGORY FRANK : Service Number - R104154 : Date of birth - 07 Dec 1953 : Place of birth - WOLLONGONG : Place of enlistment - SYDNEY : Next of Kin - MOORE HAROLD 25 YUILL AVE CORRIMAL NSW 2518

__________________________________________________ _______

Mate I just confirmed with Bob Lane that Geoff Moore died of a cereberal haemorrhage whilst still serving. My recollection was that he was at the railway station at Corrimal or the Gong somewhere.

Well that's the bloke. Shady's version is that on a trip to NAS Nowra he ran into an old mate of ours Denis Macauley (think he rose to officer rank) and he gave him the info. Would be nice to think the info was wrong

I have kept a record of all you have told me. You can understand that I must be sure in my own mind before I can add it to the web sites Page 11.

I have his fathers address and and it doesnt rate a mention in the Wollongong telephone book. I have also rang a few Moores around his suburb. I remember once he told me he was the youngest and his parents were old so they must be dead now also.

I had a chief birdie try to track him down and got word he was seriously sick at RANHP about 1977-80. His discharge date is April 77 so I guess he was posted out deceased.

I will continue trying to find out and if you have any others that can confirm I would be interested. The Navy will not tell anyone about ex members.

God bless

I feel sorry for you guys who have to locate the majority of your intake because this is my second organisation I have done. It is lot of work going thru all states of the White Pages looking for surname and initials. I know I did all my own intake and got some hits by phone and/or mail sent.

After the initial run I then published the surnames, initials, DEE date and rank of those to find on our website and forum. I then asked the guys (about 40) for any memories, nicknames, town/city etc they could remember. This helped combined with my own memories to at least accentuate the area where they lived prior to enlisting. Obviously not all settled down in the same area or state but the majority did. Also family roots are often left behind eg: parents and siblings etc.

At this stage I was told about the Australian Archives where you can obtain information just by searching O/NO's. Unfortunately for you guys this site does not apply because in April 1970 your personal data records were transferred to a new system called Navpers. Now I am told Navpers was electronically transferred to the new system (name forgotten) mid nineties.

I have found the RAN is reluctant to divulge this basic information. It sux because the USN will tell you anything you want to know about any service persons online. Anyway if you have any senior Writers/Officers/Coxswains who know the system you can backdoor the information eg: Last address, Nok, home town etc.

That is how I got the full listing of our intake...Later to be found inaccurate because the details of those who didnt pass out after signing on were missing. I picked this up by checking all our o/no's were covered and they werent. The names were guys who got out, racked off and some pissed off at Central Railway Sydney (smart boys) etc.

Still lots of work to do with my last job to investigate the Electoral Rolls for those still missing. I am hoping to get at least 90% find rate. Still plenty of time but you need it, trust me. Good Luck

Subject : The new Type 12 Ships Association

Hello Sailor!!!

Hey, all you guys who served on the best little platforms in Pussers.
The new association is now up and running.

Go to, www.type12ships.asn.au (http://www.type12ships.asn.au)

We need your support, your photos and your help in spreading the word about this new association.

If you know of any ex matelots, who served on Stuart, Parramatta, Derwent, Yarra, Swan and Torrens, give em a yell and let them know that they will be most welcome in their own association.

Let's see some of those old pics, send us your early subs and let's get this association up and running......

I'll take this opportunity to wish you and you're families all the best for the Festive Season and the New Year.

Hi Guys - Fat Cat Here,

Have just been catching up on the forum and have emailed eveyone a spreadsheet of those not found.

PPPPLEASE fill in as much detail as you can, then we can start the trawl to find the rest of us.

WRT to a reunion date I reckon we should aim at something later this year with whoever we have found, and then try an make it reasonably regular after that building as the years pass.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Was this Irwin Steele an ex CPOCK with (possibly coke bottle glasses) the son RICK an ex SMNSN Steele in 1980?

If so I remember him on an overnight stay at his home when I was S/Coy at Leeuwin. A nice man.

G,Day John, yeah same bloke, A fantastic fella. Unfortunately I am unable to track down the rest of his family, hoping your still in touch with Rick. I,VE hunted phone books 4 his wife Helen ,Rick ,Glen , & Corrine 2 no avail, I would love 2 catch up, also chasing John, their adopted son for the 48th Leeuwin reunion, I,VE had a few leads , but no luck. I bet you enjoyed your time with Irwin & hope you were able 2 partake in some of his culinary delights. He was a whizz with food, the things he did, I,VE never seen duplicated......I regret not keeping in touch with them as they were absolutely terrific by taking in a young fella every weekend,(they took 3 of us at that time), They made us so much part of their family, We were very lucky young lads. Oh at that time Rick was affectionately called motor mouth by his dad

Yes he was great fella Trevor. Sorry, I have no contact with his son Rick. The only reason I knew Rick was because he was one of my ABSNs while I was acting CPOSN at Leeuwin in 1980. From memory Rick was a mouth but many are as young SMN just off Course. I never had any problems with him which is always good being that I was in a difficult position being a kellick doing the Chief's job on HDA.

Oh I definately remember my overnight stay at the Steele's. As you say the welcome mat was out and I felt as if I was part of the family. Good food and spirits too!!!

Hi Guys,

Sorry about my going AWOL for a while, but I've been struggling on the home front since Christmas heading down a path similar to DeeDubs.

I'm also looking at the prospects of a new job which means I'll be reloacting if successful, so the next few months are going to be crazy for me trying to land the job, then if successful relocating to regional Victoria.

In the poll most people preferred a reunion in November in Melbourne by a fair margin, so I guess that's what we should aim for.

I suggest we pick a venue and a date then track down as many as possible in between times and get the message out there.

Any suggestions should be posted here and I would appreciate if someone else could run with co-ordinating this at the moment until I get a few things sorted out.

Cheers

Tony,

Posting photos on the forum is a bit hptch potch in terms of guys either knowing they are there or finding them.

I was thinking last night that we should pool all of pics into one big location, and it would seem the website is the better place.

If anyone has anyphotos at all if they email them to me with a caption I'll whip them up on the site and send an email around notifying everyone. That way we have a simple to find comprehensive coverage.

I have been looking at a few other reunion sites and everyone seems desperate for pics so let's get cracking!

It would be nice to put a recent pic up of everyone as well as the 1974 version.

My thoughts anyway.

Havent seen anyone else for bloody years, Bo (Rob Bolitho ) was best man at my first weeding - should have listned to him.

Me myself would just like 2 have a great time without the bookings other than meeting place, lets choose a date and time,

Hey Trev

Good to see you stepping up to the plate. From what I can see most of the other successful sites have a formal reunion commitee that organises the get togethers, as there is just too much work for one or two people.

I'll be involved as much as I'm able, but if was all up to Dean and I then there is no way November 2007 was going to get off the ground. My circumstances should become clearer in the next month or so, but in the mean time I'm happy just to potter away at the site by adding more pics more info as a reference point.

Also we need a team of people responsible for tracking everyone down so the first get together can be as big as possible. Not everone is on the net and I have been in contact with Sam Really, Greg Evans and Father Ryan and have their contact details. I would hope at least one person in each state to take this on so the phone bills dont get to high for any one person. Jack Bennie has shown interest in this in the past

Cheers

we have still got a while till then, though i know it will come pretty quick,,have we decided on melbourne? as i am not real brilliant with the computer, maybe you and dean can format some sort of survey 2 see what the troops want. like what can they do, can they make it, accommadation requirements, reasons cant make it(how 2 help). venue type ,etc. I would like as many as possible meantime ,to collate as many memories as possible at their time at LEEUWIN, you the computer wizzes could probably add this 2 the current sight, make it anonymous or otherwise, (something we could use on the night).I know myself , I remember differant things at different times and would like some where 2 jot them down, entries though would remain private until the actual night,. nothing derogatoty would or could be made public 2 spoil anyones night, ideas.

Hi To All
My name is Geoff Powell. I was contactacted by Tony Redondo and informed of this reunion. I would in all honesty say that there has not been too many days where i have not wondered where some of those names ended up and how they were going.I was in Walton devision and shared a room with Tony Redondo,Dave Marsh & Terry (piggy) Odonell(not sure of the spelling). I left the RAN in 79 went farming and have been there ever since.I am married with two two aged children. It would be great to catch up.

It's been yonks mate!!!!..
Whereabouts are you farming? I've only recently sold my home in the bush (Mallee) and have moved to Melbourne. The drought has taken its toll where I was..
I am still intouch with Trevor 'Jake' Mclaren and Dave 'Swampy' Marsh and only recently spoken with Tony Redondo over the phone. He sounds fit and well. It will be great to catch up with you at the reunion mate..
All the best,

I went for a drive from Ballarat to Wangaratta a couple of weeks ago and the ground was dry and barren, so I cant imagine how anyone can eke a living off that.

Good to havey ou aboard Geoff. Go to the site and send me an email and I'll link you up to everyone

PS Trev the poll has already happened and the resounding preference was for Melbourne in Nov.

Things are starting to firm up for me and the move is looking more likely around June, so give me a month or so to settle in of it comes off and I'll be back in full swing I think.

The main task for the moment is finding a venue. Contact Dean so he can co-ordinate this with you. I think what I'm hearing on the jungle drums are that a few guys are doing it tough so my recommendations would be:

1. Find a low cost venue, (cranky has suggested Cerberus maybe an option - I have no idea) and
2. Dean and I have previoously talked about setting up a fund to help out our brothers that are doing it hard to get to the reunion.

My dream was to have a reunion back in the West that incorporated a vist back to Leeuwin, but I think at the moment this is a pipe dream.

One option maybe this year to co-ordinate a series of local small get togethers in each state. Even if its only a date and time at a local pub. As long as we all know when and where they are, then everyone is invited to all of them - at least that way the guys not so flush can attend something local at low cost - and the reunions trollops can go wherever they like. I caught up with Cranky and Deedubs at the Hallam pub and it was a great night.

This way we could still catch up in 2007, but dedicate maybe this year to seriously building the numbers, raise some serious funds and have a big bang in 2008 that we can make sure everone can afford to attend.

My thoughts anyway. There should be no embarrasmment from anyone in receiving a helping hand from a brother!

Hi all, The general banter around so far is a reunion at Cerberus in November, A bigger bash in 2008 as our numbers swell. My thoughts . Make this the one ,with all of us there and continue on from there around Australia. Which means ... all of us have got to do our bit tracking down the rest of the crew. Well done to Tony Redondo 4 his detective work (only come onboard in recent weeks), and found a few.I don,t know what,s involved in keeping this sight updated, however must be a monetary figure involved as donations are being sought.HELP OUT ONCE WE ARE INFORMED,(DONATIONS MAYBE FOR THE REUNION, DUNNO)

Dennis or anybody else from 48th who surfs in here , please send emails to all of us, as the time frame to the site being updated can regrettably be long, (we all have personal hassles_) Our emails are in the walton-collins-48th homepage. failing that, leave a phone number here on the forum so we can TRACK YOU DOWN.. Dean will no doubt advise in the very near future if this info is wrong
