Not wanting to spend a fortune on my first trailer I decided to go down the use what you have route. All my power equipment(besides mower) will be locked in my ute so trailers pretty much for green waste and rubbish only. The design and fabrication was done by brother and the **** work was my old man and me.

Already had a 7 x 4 box trailer in the family that hadn't been used for about 2 years,so it just needed a a clean up and a coat of charcoal hammer finish. Note the safety boots

The trailer already had 40mm spigots on the corners so we went with a modular design. Frames are 40 mm x 40mm ally box with ally mesh inserts.

All the panels lock together with cam toggles and are locked to the trailer with the same.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c75/gcourt/work%20pics/01052010008.jpgJust have to put a tool box on the draw bar for jerry's and other odds and ends and line the mesh for easy dumping and it's done.
Cost = 3 ctns of crownies for materials
6 hrs labour from bro,dad and me
Gotta love the beer economy :)

Love a bit of beer economy, especially when the big guys are charging less than water. :)

I'll post this thread in the trailer pictures thread so it's in the same place. Hope you don't mind.

3 cartons of Crownies for that is not bad at all! I hope you got to consume a few of the Crownies as well?

No problem Andy,

You gear freak Kev,nah it's a cheapie. I had to use a Milwaukee hammer drill in my old job on occasions. If you were drilling concrete and didn't have your mind on the job it would snap your wrists like a twig, good gear.

Only soft landscaping to start Kev,It will mainly be for the quiter times when lawns are slow. My neighbor is a builder and he's happy to quote hardscaping if it comes up.

great looking trailer very high sides you will fit a lot in there
a few suggestions though have you considered putting a beam or some kind of step on either one side or the front to make it easier to climb on top and squash the load down you will fit a lot more in this way ,also a bracing bar across the back as you may find when you load the trailer up with the tail gate open it will make the sides move outwards a fraction and then you will have trouble closing the gate i would suggest a removable brace so you can take it out when unloading
as for lining the sides of the trailer i saw someone the other day who had used real estate agents signs i don't know if he had got old ones with there permission or not but i thought if he didn't he probably should have painted over the names :)

Just another suggestion, maybe put another box section that sits on the drawbar in front of the cage, put a divider in it & you can put your mowers in there, this is what I want to do to mine, there's nothing worse than having your mowers buried at the bottom of the trailer under a a heap of prunings etc :wave-hi:

Ian
Good idea on the rear brace,I'll get my brother to weld one up that I can drop on the top if she's going to have a full load.

I'm making a basic mower platform for the draw bar,I'll post pics when it's finished.

Cheers

Finally got around to making up a mower deck.
It doesn't look like it in the pic but the mower handle is inside the mudguard.

No beer this time Kev,my brother knocked it up out of some scrap. He spends his days as the factory manager at a place that knocks these things up

Now if I gave him a couple of cartons of crownies could he knock one of them up for me. Which shipbuilder is it? His name is not Wayne Bridge is it?

Not sure who's design Bluey,my brother works for a welding and engineering company on the NSW Nth Coast. That pilot boat is bound for Weipa I think.

Then it is probably not a Bridge design but it looks like one. Nice looking boat just the same. I reckon I could convert it to Bluey's Deep Sea Fishing Boat without too much fuss.
