KIM BEAZLEY TO ADDRESS SMALL BUSINESS SUMMIT

The Federal Opposition Leader, Kim Beazley, is expected to outline the Labor Party’s objectives and priorities for the nation’s small business sector when he addresses the 2006 Virgin Blue National Small Business Summit, convened by the Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia (COSBOA) and My Business Magazine.

Mr Beazley will be one of a number of prominent political, business and regulatory leaders who will speak at this year’s peak small business event to be held at Melbourne’s Carlton Crest Hotel on Tuesday June 27. The Chairman of the ACCC, Mr Graeme Samuel, will outline important regulatory issues impacting on small business.

An important session at the Summit will be the radical impact of e-commerce changes on the day to day functioning of small business. The convergence of telecommunications and Internet technologies - and the new challenges and opportunities that are emerging - will be addressed by e-commerce leaders, including the Managing Director of eBay in Australia, Simon Smith.

The sweeping changes to employment conditions, which have been triggered by the new WorkChoices legislation, will be reviewed in detail for the 350 delegates who will attend the Summit. The economic outlook for small business, opportunities and challenges in exporting, and the market power of major corporations, will be amongst the matters to be discussed at the one-day Summit.

Top industry figures in franchising and retailing will also provide insights and assessments about the rapid changes occurring in their industry sectors. A number of prominent entrepreneurs, including Wotif’s Managing Director, Graeme Wood, will also address delegates.

Virgin Blue is the principal sponsor of the National Small Business Summit.
