View Full Version : Is anyone on Face Book

I have just set up a business page for my business on Face Book. Not much yet but will work on it over the next couple of days. Have alook at it and let me know what you think

http://www.facebook.com/pages/edit/?id=297445048697&sk=basic#!/pages/Adelaide-Australia/Adelaide-Home-and-Garden-Solutions/297445048697?v=wall

If you like it click on the "Like" button. Not sure how much value a Face Book page is but I guess it is worth a try. Set up a link back to Indy on it just now plus some to my site.

Anyone got any tips for me?

Facebook page says you must log in!
Is it meant to be like that:i dunno:

Maybe that is my login I copied the link from. You need to be on Face Book to see it I guess

I think the real benefit of it is the link value. As each person joins your page it becomes a link on theirs and other people will come to you via that link as well as bots. Not to mention that it may actually generate business. I wi;ll monitor on Google analytics to see juts how many actually come to my page via FB

I haven't done much with mine yet. I attended a breakfast which was set up by NEIS on social networking sites and as much as I hate to say it,the advertising power of them is pretty impressive. There was to much info to get through in a couple of hours so they have scheduled a full day seminar on Social Media Marketing next week, will report back with any tips I pick up.

I had one but shut it down. I didnt want potential or current customers wanting to be my friend! I certainly didnt want anyone reading or looking at photos on my personal FB page.
I realise there are privacy settings but I didn't want people looking at my profile pic and my "creator name" isnt what customers know me by.

Not sure how well it will work with Google but would be interesting if you could let us know Bluey!

Mick you can set one up purely as a business page. I have a personal FB page and just set up the business one. Try this link

http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php?campaign_id=368885149649&placement=pgall&extra_1=0

You will need a separate email address to your personal FB page and don't link this one to your personal page. On the business page you don't become friends you just "join" it.

I actually have two. One is a page, and one is a group as AndyB said. You can join one, or Like the other. I started on the page but couldn't be bothered doing much more with it.

From my little research, group isnt the way to go. Groups are for like, causes or something where you have to keep many people up to date regularly. Something like that anyway??????
Heres what I read...
http://www.searchenginejournal.com/facebook-group-vs-facebook-fan-page-whats-better/7761/
Also...
http://www.entrepreneur.com/ebusiness/theonlineprofessor/article205406.html but I cant figure out which he says is best????

Anyway, Ive put together both a fan page and a group page and I could probably edit my "new" profile page to be a "Like" page.
My problem is that I doubt I'll add stuff to keep people looking. Anyway, its done now so see what happens.
I have my doubts about it lifting my website profile but its free so worth a shot!

What I am sure of is that its doing my head in!

Oh, heres my "Like" page! (for some reason my logo that I use on everything wont show up properly. Pic will do for now)

I did some reasearch a while ago on marketing the business and facebook came up as a very low medium so I dont bother.. Good old fashioned local paper and flyers seem to work the best ..I would not go looking for a lawnie on facebook I think its like looking for sandwich on hard core porno babes..

Maybe but there is a whole new generation out there that uses it religously. Can't hurt to try and if it brings in a few here and there all the better.

I think you have to encourage your friends to 'share' it on their profiles, so all of their friends see your business name. That may be 50-500 people that see your name depending how many friends each of them have. If a few of their friends also join who also have between 100 and 300 friends, then there is another 1500 people that will see your name. Then if anyone of them or someone they know needs some work done your name is in their head. Being a friend of a friend they may give you first shot at it. I was reading that people offer little incentives on Facebook, like if a friend refers two people, they get a gift voucher and things like that. I don't know if I'd bother with that, but it seems to work for some people.

Really...when I say referrals I am talking about visits to my site off Google Analytics. Does not mean customers but at least some one is visiting my site via the FB link which is more than I can say for a lot of directories I have my business in.

Well that's what I don't know. Because it is a business page it doesn't have friends. All Google Analytic's is saying is that they were referrals from FB. Whether they came directly from my page or a link on someone else's who "liked" my page I don't know because I cannot drill down that far. But it is 4 visit none the less and they spent some time on my web page.

Mick

4 visits is definitely better than non!
I would say, if your getting people to "like" that are out of your circle of friends, then thats a good thing! Why would anyone join or like a gardening business group? Id say they'd be interested in gardening or on the hunt for a possible gardener.
But really, would you search for a mechanic on FB? Id be on google or the YP's!

Im trying to get my friends to join mine. My friends already know what I do, its there friends that Im after!
I really have my doubts about the benefits of FB as a service business like ours. But is free so no harm!

Yeah it is a bit of an unknown but from what I understand if someone "likes" the page it shows on their page and their friends can then visit your page from that link. So the more people who like your page the more that link gets out there and the more people who can possibly go to your page to see what it is. If they then like it to then that's another link back to your page and so it grows

Had my FB page going for a few weeks now. Already got 60 likers of which only 20 are my friends. Have got 5 regular customers from it and this week I got 2 jobs from completely random people via the page. Costs nothing, already paid for its self 500 times over! The best way Ive found to use it is log in as the page then like other business' and groups pages in your area and get them to like yours then everytime you post something it comes up on their page to. Ive liked every Real Esate in town and many others. For the time and effort it takes (practically none) its working well.

I had a go at some facebook ads over the last few days. Not expensive, as you can pay per click.
Since last monday, I have had 7913 people see my ad an average of 9.4 times. Of those, 24 people have clicked the ad to view my site, and the number of people who 'like' my page has grown from 4 of my friends, to 24 people, some who I don't know at all.

Just yesterday, I changed my ad to mention that we have weekly specials, and added my phone number, so people don't even have to click on my ad for my contact details.

You can also specify your target audience. I chose to advertise to anyone using facebook, who lives within 10km of Toowoomba, which accounts for roughly 33,000 people.
You can be very specific with your targeting, using location, proximity to location, age, marital status, gender, ***ual orientation, language spoken, interests, level of education, and even which company they work for, provided they have input this information on their profile.

The feature also gives you fairly detailed reports on demand.

I think I'll just keep going with it until I either reach the full 33,000 of my target audience, or get some jobs, or go broke :p

It seems the number of people liking the page would grow exponentially, as it becomes visible on the pages of more 'friends of friends'.

As my ad, or my budget? I figured, to start, I would budget for two clicks per day, so I doubled the recommended bid, and used that as my daily budget, so I think it was $3.74 or something.

After a few days, I found that my average bid went town to under $1, so I lowered my daily budget to $3, and changed my maximum bid to $1, so I now get a maximum of 3 clicks per day.

You basically just run it for a few days, review and tweak, run for a few more days, review and tweak, until you're happy with the balance.

I have a link in my email sig for my page, and when sending invoices through I have something about "liking" my facebook page but no one ever has! What's pay per click?

Pay per click (PPC) (also called Cost per click) is an Internet advertising model used to direct traffic to websites, where advertisers pay the publisher (typically a website owner) when the ad is clicked. With search engines, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. Content sites commonly charge a fixed price per click rather than use a bidding system. PPC "display" advertisements are shown on web sites or search engine results with related content that have agreed to show ads.

Main examples are GOOGLE, FACEBOOK & LINKEDIN.

Just a little tip for the guys that don't know- when you have at least 25 'likes', you can give your page a name, so for example instead of the address being something like www.facebook.com/blahblahblah=page/436363483473638, you can have www.facebook.com/yourname. As long as that name isn't taken, and you cannot change it once you pick a name. It also helps your SEO apparently. Bit more info. http://www.sociolatte.com/2011/05/how-to-give-my-facebook-page-name.html

Ive looked into it and you get options for copying a piece of code? or something. Where do you copy it to and do you have to change any words in it or do anything else? All the help articles on web go through it too quickly and its hard to understand.

I can't remember the exact process, but I think when you click on your business page. Go to edit page and click on resources and then social plugins. There is something like create a Like box or something like that. You click on it and then it will spit out a code. Copy and paste that code onto your website- either in the layout design or whichever pages you want it on.
Facebook have just done some update for pages. I hope it isnt like that *** timeline thing.

The trouble with social network marketing is that you would need to spend alot of active time on it to get it working for you. As a local business, you could get likes from local people by joining local groups, and run promotions through those groups etc. Also, they are good for marketing to your existing client base. I preferr to spend more time on traditional media, or tweek my ads on gumtree among others. I do have a fb page though.

I'm on Facebook, please like my page.
I am a bit slack at updating my site though, having said that there's plenty of pics and stuff on there. Clients don't really look at it, on my business cards i only refer to my website address, which again needs updating.
The way i look at it is Facebook is a free marketing tool and if i pick up a client through it great, but i don't expect to.

my facebook page has suddenly become really elongated, so I have to use the left/right arrows to scroll across the page - anyone else getting this or know how to fix it? I'm using firefox

It's a page zoom thing. To zoom out, hold down the Ctrl key and tap the - (minus) key until you can see the whole screen. Likewise to zoom in hold down Ctrl and tap the + key

At any time to reset your screen to the normal zoom, Ctrl 0 (zero)

OK, here's what I got from the seminar and a bit of reading I've done since:

Many customers are tech savvy. They get a lot of information through "social media" (Facebook etc) and their expectations have changed. They expect immediacy, they want something in return for the information/time, they demand honesty, they want to feel you actually care about them and they want things to be easy. They expect you to listen and respond QUICKLY. Facebook is the top media tool used by businesses. Twitter, LinkedIn ad YouTube are the other 4 most popular. If you use these tools, you have to be prepared and available to answer peoples' questions during your waking hours - a good idea to have a smart phone with internet access.

Benefits of social media:

Increased exposure - people can see who you are and what you do
Gaining marketplace intelligence (i.e.seeing what's going on with everyone else)
Generating leads
Developing loyal "fans"

Facebook is a good way to test how you want to do things before you get your own website or you may continue to use it instead of a website - it's free! You can include before and after photos to showcase what you do.

In a nutshell, I think we all have to start using Facebook and other "social media" as they call it or we won't be maximising opportunities available to us. It takes a bit of effort and for those of us who don't like being glued to our phones or computers, can be quite a challenge, especially when we're out on the job. But I reckon all we can do is the best we can and give it a go.

Right, I'm off to work out how the bloody hell to set up a business Facebook page! If I can't work it out, I've got a nephew coming over tonight who I'm sure will be able to do it in a flash. Here's a good piece of advice......if it's too hard to set something up on the computer, get kids to do it and tell you how to use it! If you have to bribe them, so be it!!

Hope this helps.
