Thought I'd ask the question.

I like a big range. Everything from death metal to The Glenn Miller band. Can not stand rave music or doof doof music

Right now I'm listening to the latest Slash Cd. A very cool cd, some great music and some great artists. With Slash playing on every track.

Well Glenn,

Next time the kids are away, a party at your house seems the go.
Been to partys with great sounds from that era with the ladys/wives dancing on the solid wood coffee table.:p:):):p:):)

Shell we not go there in conversation on the open boards.

No that's alright mate. We have some pretty wild parties here. Have got musicians living next door and I spent years playing drums, guitar and song writing myself when I was younger. A lot of my friends are musicians as well. Some as professionals. My kids are teenagers now and have been around it their whole lives. But now my son thinks I'm embarrassing and my daughter is pretty cool with it all......until I open my mouth.

Man, I wish he didnt sing in the "country style voice!"

If I listen to the radio, I listen to triple J, Gold Fm and a station called Rebel FM when I can get reception. Rebel play a great mix of tunes and bugger all top 40. They also play tunes only big fans of bands would know. I mean, they dont always play the "hit" off the album. They love Zepplin and play stuff I havent even heard before!

I can listen to just about anything except rap and doof doof crap but what really gets me going is when I am having a beer listening to some real old fashioned Irish music. My foot starts tapping and I just want to sing and grab the nearest pretty girl and dance. Just can't beat that music. A lot of modern day music has Irish music at it's roots. I'm into a bit of everything. I like songs from a lot of genres but don't necessarily like all an entire album from an artist. I like a bit of the mainly older Chilli peppers, A few Pearl Jam songs, love The Eagles and went to their concert about 4 or 5 years ago. I also like (a very small amount) of old hip hop or rap crap as most put it, but I agree 99% of it is absolute rubbish, don't mind some RnB like Donnel Jones and Joe -if anyone has heard of them, random stuff like Lionel Ritchie and a bit of Stevie Wonder. My Ipod has all sorts of stuff on it. I can't stand doof doof or heavy rock/metal but I dont mind the odd Metallica song either.

She lives in Brisbane Scoob - plays at the Storey Bridge Hotel all the time, as well as some other venues throughout the year.

She writes her own songs as well...does the whole lot and records them in her own studio, playing all the instruments herself. She was selected in to top 25 for the last Australian Idol but refused to sign the contract that basically said Sony EMI own everything you write for the next 2 years so pulled out and all footage of her was cut from the show. Kyle Sandilands told her she looked ugly when she sings because she "uses her face" too much...tosser.

Just remembering my more youthful days Glenno!! Just a little bit of southern rock by a band that actually played music (not like much of it played these days).
Have been getting back into the music lately - digging up some of this older stuff that I have to build a collection of again!!
Some great live versions!!!

And if you like Soundgarden and Pearl Jam check out Temple of the Dog which has both singers on vocals. Paul if you can post up a link to a Temple of the Dog song called Hungerstrike that would be cool.

Audioslave and Temple of the Dog were the next ones I was going to get to.

Really hoping to get to the Gold Coast Big Day Out in Jan to see SoundGarden.

I don't know what it is but that period in my life from 1989/90 when I was finishing high-school through to 1996/97 when my Mum passed away is still what I remember the most when it comes to music and it is definitely the period that produced some of the best music in my opinion (apart from certain periods and particular bands from the 60s and 70s).

Its funny how you really remember the last of your high school years and the music that goes with it . I completed year 12 in 1990 and music around that time means a lot to me. For me i think its because i started to get my independence, got my license, started getting into pubs without fake id, started getting lots of lovin lol. Also everything is new and fresh so for me the music that coincides with this time seems to mean a lot.

Mick, I have followed Gotye a bit cause he was a local, and attended the local college. Not sure about "Hearts a miss".
And I agree that all the great bands were in the late 70s era. I was only 7 or 8 then but the songs have resonated to the current day, and were all still huge during the 80s and 90s when I was a young fella.

Jo, nice clip, you must be very proud of her.

Since Boxing Day I have bought my Vintage Stereo back to life properly.
I stupidly 6ys ago threw my top nick Graphic Equalizer out. So got me a nice one from Ebay.
Also purchased another 18 LP's from ebay in mint condition to top up my collection as there was a period when I stop buying Lp's and got cassettes instead.

Then from Video Pro in Qld ordered Bose 301 series V speaker and bingo, beeeautifulll great music with better sound stage than a Cd's could ever deliver. Many folks knock Bose, but they do deliver a good stage performance for my vintage ears.
Just waiting on Bose wall mount bits to stop feedback to the turn table. But two squash balls carefully cut in half, then inverted under ones turntable do an impressive job towards reducing feedback.
Got a Knoski record wash bath cleaner to get rid of any crackle/pops ----- and ------ now its sit back after work of an evening with several cold beers with some nice music from 1965-1980's. Like happened last night, music, cold beer and plenty of pizza and a couple of inhouse complaints to turn it done.

An old punk me love the stranglers still going strong
Looking forward to there new album in march

I was/am a Stranglers fan! Had a heap of there CD's, a few albums and tapes. All my CD's and tapes got stolen around 1992 along with other stuff.
Just devastating when that happens. About 36 CD's and 40 tapes of various bands alone, some were deleted albums. Takes years to build up a collection, all gone while out on the pizz!
They even stole a bottle of Jim, so I couldnt even drown my sorrows!

But yeah, love The Stranglers!

Thats what hapens to great talent people copy them.
I think Abbey has tones in her voice like Adele but has her own style,, I think she is a cross between Adele and this:

As ballroom Dancing being my main hobby, that is my first train of thought these days when it comes to music. We have a social dance club here and there are a few of us (6) that take turns in being the DJ for the night of our social dances. I have only started this year DJ'ing and have really pushed the boundaries by playing stuff that is really thinking out of the square so to speak compared to what the others play. INXS, Chris Rea, Christine Aguilera, Erasure, Madonna, Tina Turner are just a few, and surprisingly most of our more senior members love it. Just recently, while surfing the net looking for something new, I stumbled across 'Naturally 7' and then a home grown, Tom Thum. But going back to my early days, Uriah Heap and Hawkwind were 2 bands that I really enjoyed and still do, (but my wife hates them) My favourite these days would have to be Caro Emerald, a great mix of old school with a modern twist and very suitable for Ballroom Dancing. Check her out.

Some old school. DK and Bad Religion, Clash, Ramones, *** Pistols.

Faith No More, Mike Patton is GOD.

RHCP, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots etc.
