yeah probably a must see, if it's not too sensationalized. I like to find out when the council have issued over hang warnings around here and letter box that area to do the work. ;) I've also found that the council will sometime charge around the $300 mark to slash a 700sqm vacant lot. Good to know these things I reckon.

I don't know if the council here do this or not - each would be different under their own local laws anyway but we have quite a few feral yards in Toowoomba that would just be a breeding ground for vermin.

There was one in the paper recently - a story of a young late twenties aged bloke living at home, mother has died recently, he has depression. His entire yard and footpath ranges from 300 - 600mm high.

Neighbours are complaining to council all the time. When the council does react and goes to cut his footpath it is done under Police escort. I don't know if they send him a bill though.

The young bloke's reasoning is that he is returning the yard to nature and it is a 'habitat-garden' for birds and wildlife. There's been plenty of supporting letters to the editor in the newspaper too - not from the neighbours though!

$800 for a footpath is a bit much though. Keen to see how long the grass is that they are cutting. My bet is it's in Sydney.

It will be a beat up for sure. Probably a feral block that got a fire danger order. Most Councils will bend over backward to get people to do something about over grown blocks before they issue an order and fines. Probably some fat arsed lazy sod who wont get off his butt to do anything and won't pay for someone like us to do it.

These ferals who have overgrown lawns and gardens should be brought to task by Councils. I do a fair bit of fire danger stuff for quite a few Councils. Most of their rangers are pretty reasonable blokes but when push comes to shove they shove. I get called in to do compulsory cuts and it is good money because the Council just puts it back against the landowners rates if they don"t pay.

My bet it is a NSW story.

The ad shows a whiney middle-aged woman on what looks like a reasonable suburban footpath but you can be sure ACA will have plenty of stock footage of overgrown yards for the beat-up.

It will be one of those viewer submitted stories. Good for a watch and a laugh as I love seeing whingers whinge! Makes you wonder why they don't just pay what may have been a small price to have it cut in the first place?

I know someone that was on aca a few years back and she was told what to say. Other comments that were relevant to the story were cut out. I always take these stories with a grain of salt.

I get quite a few calls from people that have been given council orders to clean up. Especially this time of year when the Dengue fever is about.
Our council will mow an overgrown nature stip but not a yard. Up to the owner to find a contractor. I know a guy here that has a small tractor and slaher so I subbie him for these jobs and charge the hell outa them. At the end of the day we need to show these people that by getting your place mowed on a regular basis is comparitable in price to leaving it until Tigers start appearing.
My Aunty has lived next door for some 45 years to a grub who will let the lawn get to 6ft and a council order before something happens. Real back to nature types. Its just not fair on your nieghbours I reckon. If ya wanna get back to nature then go live in it away from suburbia :FU

Don't ring Yarra Ranges they can't keep their own grass areas under control. They put new pathways in for the local pedestrians then let the grass grow all over them.Good example is along Mt.Dandenong Rd from Liverpool Rd to Canterbury rd Montrose.I'm about to ring them again, but I can't get to speak to anyone who is in charge to give me a proper answer as to why they let the grass grow so long.

Lets put some sense into it. I used to run a council compliance unit. These types of complaints occurred daily. People at their wits end with the state of the so called house next door. Lets face it some people are just plain feral. Councils need to be able to do this to maintain the amenity of your area. The state and federal governments wont have a bar of it nor will the cops and the EPA. So instead of knocking the councils for doing what their ratepayers are asking them to do why not get on board and let your Council know you are available to do the hard work. I make good money from Council orders

Speak to your local Councillor and kick up a stink. Many Council compliance teams are lazy bastards hence why I don't do the job anymore. But there is one thing that I learned the squeaky wheel definitely gets oiled in Councils. The more noise you make the better.

don,t complain to council via the phone! put it in writing. They have to action written complaints and account for them.
