I was whipersnippping the last client today and was 2.5 meters from the end and it started to make noise like it was beging to run out of fuel. thought i can make it to the end i hope. got half meter short and die. filled it up with fuel and went to start it and the cord is stuck wnt budge at all. First thought was some how is gone out of oil and siezed checked the oil and there is plenty of oil. Thought maybe its over heated as i did a lot of snipping there as many gardens to clean down. Went through 2 lots of cord and was filling up for third time. Let it cool down but now it is still not moving.

Honda dealer has new staff in service area saying there booked out for 2 weeks even contractors cant expect anything in less than 3 days.

Any help would be good.

when i seized my honda blowers i have taken the starter off and then grabbed the part the starter usually grabs with a shifter and given it a twist this has loosened it enough to then be able to reattach the starter and get them going again but they have never been as good as before and i have replaced them with new equipment as soon as i could

Just and unqualified thought can you take the spark plug out when you do what Ian says so there's less compression and it's easier to turn, maybe a drop of oil down there too???

now you mention it i think last time i did it i removed the spark plug and sprayed some wd40 inside as i said this got it going but really they have only been good as backups

Thats what happened to my honda powered atom. I will never buy a small honda powered machine again they are rubbish. I haven't heard of this happening with other brands like makita

is it still under warranty? how old is it? seems a bit weird that it would seize in the bore with plenty of oil in the case. You could pull it down and have a look new set of rings and a cylinder hone and shes humming again could use one of those small hones designed for brakes calipers. Just a thought i never used the honda small fours

Aparrently, the UMK425 cuts out when hot.
My mechanic sold me a longer spark plug which has fixed this.
He said the small spark plug doesn't have enough resistance. So when it heats up, it cuts out.

first thing to do is Remove Spark plug, squirt some wd40 or inox into the sucker.. whilst the spark plug is out try and pull chord see if it moves if not u need to pull starter off and go through it, seams like something may be broke, conrod.??pin.? hopefully there is no metal fragments on the spark plug...

what makes these small honda's seize when they still have oil in them? is it possibly due to running to lean and overheating?

Chris it's not just Umk425's I have a Umk435 which has the 35cc motor and it seized to, plenty of oil, no real sign of pending doom. It's locked solid. I talked to a few other people who have had problems with Honda snipper, seems to be Honda's. I am looking at a Sthil 4 mix now, heard good and bad about these to.

I guess they must be overheating somehow?
We have 2 stihl 4 mix kombi's and everything about them is good except that they can be a ***** to start when hot. If they started first pull like when cold they would be the perfect machine... loads of power basically unstoppable (km/fs130)
when cold they start first pull ,never even use the choke or throttle at all. but when used then put down for 15mins to 1 hour on a warm day 25 + then thats where the trouble starts.. seem to flood themselves. the first 6 months didnt really have that problem but now both machines do.

We actually want to get a smaller machine thats easy to start to use for the regulars and just use the stihls for the overgrowns. I thought the honda was the way to go for ease of starting

the stihls seem like they will go forever though just not start easily lol

sounds like it may be too rich!! only choke it once a day First start in the morning, and should be good all day!!! as long as motor is warm!

Great chart do they make one for wives so you can tell what their problem is just by looking at them. Could be safer than asking....

the atom was bought second hand with a honda which,as per usual, sh!t itself. The zenoah/komatsu is 2 stroke and a proper commercial engine.
