With fuel costs soaring at present and with no real relief in sight one has to wonder how to best manage the situation.

The "Property Care" industry would acknowledge that fuel costs make up a significant part of there operating expenses but how are these costs best handed on to the customer.

The Transport Industry has successfully lobbied and managed to apply a fuel levy to each job that they undertake but the Property Care industry probably does not have the leverage available to achieve the same result.

Given that many in this industry are part timers and probably don't know their real cost anyway how do we, those that need to recover the increased costs go about it.

Sometimes annual increases to clients are hard to achieve given the competition in the marketplace...so how do you think this issue should be approached?

Cheers ;)

One thing that stands out if your running your business properly your customers will not have a problem with honest increases the buety of our customers are they become friends in business with us . Customers have actually said to many contracters i expected the increase.
If u feel they may object to a price increase because of the fuel levy u are imposing on them you could allways let them know you will decrease the levy if the fuel goes back down to normal pricing.Fairs Fair

Thats if you are putting there price up due to Your fuel levy charges :wave-hi:

The goverment is giving money away again if you purchase on gas for your car you will get a rebate.Howard unveils $1.5b alternative fuels package

The Prime Minister has unveiled a $1.5 billion plan to encourage the use of alternative fuels. John Howard has confirmed that from today a $1,000 rebate will be available for the purchase of new LPG powered vehicles.

There will be a $2,000 grant for the conversion of existing vehicles from petrol to LPG. Mr Howard has told Parliament that the package also includes increased oil exploration and grants for petrol stations to install ethanol pumps.

"This is a difficult time for Australians faced with high petrol prices and it is only appropriate that the benefits which accrue to Australia from our substantial resource base flow through beyond a narrow part of our society," Mr Howard said.

Mr Howard says the package will help motorists deal with the rising cost of petrol. "The fuel bill for a six cylinder vehicle travelling 15,000 kilometres a year would be cut by $27 a week," he said.

We have a BP plus card and it's great. They direct debit the fuel bills once a month and there's no worry about keeping fuel receipts. You go on line and download your Tax Invoices each month.

When you apply for a card you get $50 free fuel.

Also have noted that the hot dogs, pies and other non-fuel items don't appear to be itemised on the statements. That makes lunch tax deductible too! We even get the car washing included as part of the billing...can't wash them at home and it's also a legitimate business expense.
