Just about to buy some more-especially needed for a wet winter, but now looking for lace-ups after a sprained ankle or two. Previously used Oliver because of price, weight and wide tread pattern on sole allowing to scrape the dog - sh** out easily.
What do people wear and why?
I am thinking of a pair of Redbacks as they are quite comfortable and light and reasonably priced at about $120.

Redbacks are the way to go. They are super comfortable. Lace ups have way better support, only sucks doing them up :)

I had a pair of Redbacks (slip on) and found the clear sole was slippery on wet concrete etc.

I recently got a pair of Caterpillar Alaska lace ups from USA. Waterproof & steel toe. Haven't worn them much yet but look a good boot (got heel blisters first day, and forgot my old boots so had to wear them all day).
Feel a bit heavy to pick up, but don't notice the weight when on your feet.
Made in China
Can get them landed at your door for <$120AU at the moment.

Received my new Mongrels yesterday.

If anyone wears them or Redbacks, Blundstone or Olivers check out these guys on eBay.

My new Zipsiders cost $111 (free postage) which is about $40 to $50 dollars cheaper than I could get them locally.

I bought a pair of redbacks late last year on special and have found them very good so far, even through the wet season. Have given them a few good liberal soakings of Dubbin in that time, but I can assure you they have been very wet heaps of times. Dry them out at night by hanging them up in front of the split system unit under the house (highset queenslander). Have always worn 2 pairs of Bamboo socks as well to soak up the sweat and for added comfort as well. Would like to see a pair of those Bogs in real life. Drying them out overnight could be a problem as my socks are sopping wet at the end of some days.

I always use Macks. Use a ****load of dubbin. Aplly it weekly and they last well. I wear the soles out before the uppers. Comfortable and easy to wear plus steel cap. Not cheap but you have to have good boots working on your feet all day long. I'm an ex Blundy turned Mongrel.

Blundstone used to make some great boots, now they're just rubbish.
Went through 2 pairs of Blundys in 6 months. (Use them now for really crappy jobs)

I've had my current Mongrel Zip Siders for over 7 months. Realistically I'll be upgrading again in 6 months or so.
I've used them for motorbike riding as well :)

PaulG
16-05-2014, 12:04 PM
If I haven't lost any receipts it means my current Mongrel zipsiders have lasted nearly 18months. Almost time for a new pair now as the sole is wearing through and parts of the leather uppers are starting to crack. Aussie made too. I tried a pair of Blundstones last year to have as a backup pair of boots and the leather wore through on the back edge of the steel cap in just a few weeks. Blundies were Aussie made but the majority of their stock is now made in Thailand and India.

Thanks for that Geoff. I had no idea about it either. Applied for it just now online. Their online process is a bit of a pain though. Make sure you scroll down to bottom of the agreement section and declaration section and hit accept of it keeps kicking you back. They must have a ABN look up facility because I just typed in my ABN and it filled in the business name automatically. Not too bad 5 to 15 % off some stuff.

Are the magnums the one that are high on the ankle like the Police wear?

Been wearing Magnums for 12 months great boot, and as light as a sock, Dubbing regularly and they stay soft. PS: they have a 12 month warranty silly not to get them

Would also like to check out the Magnums, but no outlet here according to their website. Will be up for new boots soon and the "lightweight'" has definitely caught my eye. Might send them an e-mail to see if they can tell me weight specs.

Yes they are, Magnum Stealth Force 8.0 SZ CT

easy to take off and on, laced them all the way up tight, they are like wearing a running shoe not a boot but they have good support for ankle rolls,
