Re: Work vehicle tool boxes
Very nice! :)
Worth 'burglar alarming' it? ...
Could be very simple like a switch that trips a horn/siren if the lid is lifted once it is "armed".
Joe.
Re: Work vehicle tool boxes
No good just scaring them Joe, especially when they have cleaned out the tool box in 20 secs.
May be a good idea in addition to something which takes them a little longer to get in!

Your thieves are fast!
They seem to be slower up here in the hills .... anyway, I think they are lazy opportunist scum who don't like PC Rain and Sgt Freezing-Cold. :)
Re: Work vehicle tool boxes
wrap a chain over it? Even if you don't padlock it, its a visual deterrent. They may think they need bolt cuters as well as a jimmy bar or screwdriver which might cause them to go to an easier target.

Or a lot longer to get of their leg as it sinks its teeth deeper with each movement

It will carry quite a bit of equipment as this car will be towing the trailer for commercial work approx 3 days per week.
It will be parked securely overnight but want to take the extra precaution.
I got the box at a good price - would have been probably 2.5 times what I paid to get one made up like this. see attached>>

Compression locks are on a lot of toolbox's these days. If you want added security put heavy duty Hasp & Staple latches with padlocks. These will stop the lid from being levered up.

Re: Work vehicle tool boxes
installed 2 new boxes today/yesterday, one side yesterday went pretty easily, todays one was mounted under an existing one and took a bit more planning - had to empty the box on top of the tray, wow! was there some filth in there lol

I need to replace the back one shortly before it falls off...
Re: Work vehicle tool boxes
Looking at toolboxes on each side of a trailer.
Possibly only going to be 2 ft high sides but have 7ft length.
What are the key features you guys have had/designed into yours?
On a 5ft wide I figure it will cause some problems with viewing traffic behind?

Re: Work vehicle tool boxes
I got a quote to have a big toolbox fabricated on Friday and they wanted over $1k. So I thought about building one myself, but the materials were close to $400 alone.
I picked up a couple of small second hand toolboxes this morning off the local Sell/swap/buy and set them up today. Cut a hole in one end of each one so the trimmers feed through.
