Some lawn contractors are slack
I have been out about doing my weekly flyer drops and picking up jobs from other lawn contractors.
Complaints from customers are a plenty..
.................................................. ....................................
He rescheduled that days cut but turned up 3 weeks later.
He had no idea how to edge a straight line.
I pay for clipping removal and all of a sudden he is tipping the clippings into my bin.
I keep asking him not to blow the clippings at that angle as they end up in my swimming pool.
Sometimes he does the edges and when he does sometimes he doesn’t blow the clippings away from path.
They way he talks to me he is rude and scares me.
.................................................. .....................................
All these i picked up during the last 2 weeks as the customers wanted a proper service.
As you can read some guys have no idea how to go about running a successful business and wonder why they have cancellations.

He rescheduled because the lawn was already overdue by 2 weeks at the clients instructions
He didn't worry about a straight line because if it was done on a regular basis is wouldn't be so overgrown
It was so overgrown after 6 weeks and the customer wont pay for the extra greenwaste removal
There is too much wind and it's not easy stopping the clippings ending up in the pool when the grass is so overgrown
because it is already costing him enough time on their overdue lawn
He is getting ****ty because he is sick of being stuffed around and treated like a dumb lawnmower man.

Re: Some lawn contractors are slack
Good luck with them Beetle. Sometimes they are genuine, sometimes they are not. You will work it out very soon. Just dont be negative like many around here and you may pick up a few good clients BUT learn how to also read between the lines!!!

when the bill was eventually paid
He had no idea how to edge a straight line.
I pay for clipping removal and all of a sudden he is tipping the clippings into my bin.
which i told hum to do to reduce my costs
I keep asking him not to blow the clippings at that angle as they end up in my swimming pool.
but it only happens on the days we have a strong easterly
Sometimes he does the edges and when he does sometimes he doesn’t blow the clippings away from path.
immediatly i mean he does get to them once he finishes mowing

Ok I'll stop being negative and give a sensible response. Like John said you have to read between the lines. Quite often you can pick up new clients because the old contractor isn't doing a professional job but I don't know how many times I have taken on a new customer that has said something negative about their old contractor and it hasn't taken me long to realise why THE CONTRACTER has become unprofessional.
Re: Some lawn contractors are slack
With replies like that all going into damage control

Regardless of what is said on here don't go into it with a negative attitude Beetlejuice. At the end of the day some will be good and some will be bad clients. Deal with it as it comes.
Re: Some lawn contractors are slack
just trying to warn you as we have had it happen to us maybe some do have slack contractors but often the ones that complain about the last guy its not long before they owe you a heap of money and then are whinging about you to the next guy going to do it 2 bucks cheaper.
Re: Some lawn contractors are slack
As there is a lot more lawnies around now then when i started 28 years ago i’d say a lot more complaints exits today.
In my area roughly 40-50 contractors all fighting for each share of business
Re: Some lawn contractors are slack
that is too many, and the number was zero when we started in our small city. we were the original actual company. thirty years later, heck even in the past 5 years now there are like 15.
i always try to do my best, and as long as i do a better job than everyone else then work comes my way. pretty simple to me but some just dont care
Re: Some lawn contractors are slack
yeah, lol, i bet the ones who complian are also paying THE BOTTOM RATE possible, to screw down the next guy that comes along, with the sad stories,
some people wont pay for "good jobs" they pay the BOTTOM dollar, so they get the BOTTOM job from the BOTTOM contractor.
until he gets sick of their **** and just says those 3 magic words.
then its back to the local paper, get 10 guys to do a dutch auction quote, with the "poor me" story, so guys feel professionally oibliged to give a low price and do a top job
"i want it mown every 2 weeks" turns into 6 weeks in summer, and they expect the lawn to be mown for THE SAME PRICE as the 2 week quote.
yep, theres some nasty lawn mowing guys out there, but i reckon theres a lot worse customers.
take it wit ha grain of salt, and make sure YOU are getting what the job is worth.
And dont take any ****.
Re: Some lawn contractors are slack
I got a few calls this year from "potential" customers who said (complaining) there mowing guy hadn't turned up for ages and the grass is really over grown, (you know, mower guy is unreliable.)
While at first I thought cool, new customers but then I realised, Im basically in the same boat as the rest of these guys. Its been raining for 2mths and theres no way anyone can mow these places!
Ive backed up the other lawns and explained the situation but no, "come do a quote anyway!"
Sometimes customers are just complete PITA's! Unreasonable expectations!
Re: Some lawn contractors are slack
yep, we get the same in summer.
it rains for 2 weeks, then every regular wants a mow that week, and all the people that you or the other guys cant mow THAT WEEK , call around for a new guy, giving him the overgrown story.
i think of it as trading up customers. the cheap love jobs i have had, i let my awful ones go, collect some better paying ones, and the awful ones get someone else, which may then cause that guy to back up his jobs more, giving me a bit at more new ones.
but simply put, ya cant mow everyone in one week.
and if they cant understand that, the 3 words suffice.
