Height scalped kikuyu lawn
Hi all
I've run the Honda over a kikuyu lawn, at the lowest level, it was very thatchy, but she didn't want to hire scarifier, got lots off it, I've applied scotts lawn builder fertiliser and we are now receiving lots of rain.
My question is at what height should I aim for to keep it looking good, one or two notches above the lowest? I obviously can't keep it at the lowest as it would always scalp I'd imigane, any advice appreciated
Cheers
Re: Height scalped kikuyu lawn
you want a min blade length of 1"
Re: Height scalped kikuyu lawn
Ok, thanks redeye, so as a general rule on the Honda self propelled is that say, on the second or third notch say? Cheers
Re: Height scalped kikuyu lawn
l use between 3 to 4th notch on the honda selfpropelled
Re: Height scalped kikuyu lawn
I mow my lawn and a few others between 6 and an 8 with my chonda 216,I also do some between 3 and 5 :) I also do one with a catcher at between 1 and 2 note this client also used to complain about the number of weeds in his lawn and I always gave him the same answer let me increase the cut height and mulch and it will improve, I'm still mowing low with a catcher and it still looks crap. Funny thing is the reason I still do his lawn is because I also do 2 rentals for him I mulch them on a 6 and he says how good they look :i dunno:
Re: Height scalped kikuyu lawn
Settings mean nothing alike, all depends if the wheels are rolling on solid ground or on top of the thick grass as the settings for one lawn will be different to another if they were both on notch number 4 as a example
Re: Height scalped kikuyu lawn
When I was using the 216's I would generally mow from 4 to 6. The lawns that were mowed lower than that didn't look good.

Re: Height scalped kikuyu lawn
Hey guys, scalping a lawn a my place to get rid of thatch build up.
Using a honda 195 but need to get it probably the equivalent of 1 notch lower. It is already on the lowest notch.
Have other older mowers with bald wheels which are not strong enough. Dont really want to change over to bald wheels. Any suggestions on how to lower the cut? Only need to do it on this one lawn
Re: Height scalped kikuyu lawn
Why not put a couple of washers in-between the blade holder and the shaft?

A couple of D plates between the blades & disc would drop the cut height.. if the bolts are long enough. Of course I'd never do or recommend anything like that ;)
Re: Height scalped kikuyu lawn
drop down blades 5mm ?
I know on the 216 it would scalp
