    Re: Newbie in Somerville Victoria

Which franchise were you with? I'm an ex jim, coming up on 7 years as an Indy.

Re: Honda HRU 196 not catching properly

Remove the mulch ramp underneath the deck (I'm assuming it has one). It used to happen on my old 216's too until I removed the mulch ramp. It's supposed to help with mulching by directing the...

    Re: School Mowing in Queensland

I do 2 Catholic schools, a high school and a primary school. The primary school is smaller and I find it easier to do on a weekend with nobody there, but have done it over 2 afternoons once the kids...

Re: Jim’s mowing calling contractors for work

I was paying around $8 a lead before I left in 2012. Other divisions pay higher lead fees. I think test and tag were paying around the $40 mark.

    Re: Height scalped kikuyu lawn

When I was using the 216's I would generally mow from 4 to 6. The lawns that were mowed lower than that didn't look good.

Re: Things that make me grumpy

I got the same call too. They wanted set up an account but I declined too. I asked him for an email with more info but haven't received it yet. Maybe the fact that I told him I'm an ex Jims counted...
  8. Re: Increasing customer base and selling "splits" - does anyone do this?

Have to agree. Although most weren't struggling, a lot weren't happy with the franchisor and the system. In my area we had 6 go Indy within 12 months. I left 6 years ago and glad I did. Only regret...
  9. Re: Increasing customer base and selling "splits" - does anyone do this?

The franchisor also takes a 20% cut of any splits sold.
  10. Re: Increasing customer base and selling "splits" - does anyone do this?

Not really an exaggeration. A vacant territory with no customers sells for around $20-22k so selling one with customers for around $30k seems about right but the cut value has to be above a certain...

    Sticky: Re: Current Jobs List

Anyone taking work in Mona Vale Nsw? A rehab company I do some work for are looking for someone to provide services for one of their customers. Let me know if you're interested and I can pm the...
  12. Re: Looking to move into acreage work - what is the market like? How to charge?

Agree 100%. I'm charging $60-70 per hour for all push mowing and gardening. The ride on, which I mainly use on 2 schools, works out around twice that. You have to factor in the initial cost of the...
  13. Re: Looking to move into acreage work - what is the market like? How to charge?

That's definitely true with acreage I do. The job takes around 3hrs when I do the whole lot, 45 minutes on the ride on slashing the open areas, just under 1.5hrs edging (lots of garden beds and...
  14. Re: Looking to move into acreage work - what is the market like? How to charge?

The productivity of your machine also depends on the layout of the area your cutting. Long straight runs means you get more done. I have 2 schools that I look after, both with reasonable large ovals...
  15. Re: Looking to move into acreage work - what is the market like? How to charge?

I've been thinking about this myself for awhile. I like the idea of spending more time on my ride on (I have a hustler x-one 48") but not sure how to go about it so I'll be following the responses...

Re: Things that make me grumpy

Just got an email today about it. 20% seems a bit much and not sure how accurate their pricing would be from satellite images. Personally I think you have to walk the property to get a better idea of...

Re: Things that make me grumpy

Looks like the owners are looking for a cheaper quote. I doubt I could lift the price anymore than it is, which is fine as it's on the higher end of my pricing. The disappointing thing is they asked...

Your not wrong redeye. Nice bunch of blokes but ragged looking. 3 of them had their shirts off and had skin that looked like old boot leather. No hats. Not a good look on a high visibility location....

Re: Things that make me grumpy

Did one of my regulars today, a nice hotel/motel, that I've been doing for about 2.5 years. I do the lawns fortnightly during the busy season and maintain the garden once a month, standard stuff....
  20. Re: Changing our forum user name how do we do it?

Been an indi for just over 5 years now but was still the same old forum when I left. Personally prefer this one.
  21. Re: Changing our forum user name how do we do it?

A pity but I'm not surprised. Started well but then the mowing guys abandoned ship. From memory it was mainly the test & guys that were still there when I left.
  22. Re: Changing our forum user name how do we do it?

I remember it well, I was part of the alternate forum. Deserved more credit than it got.

Re: A honda to do this..was it worth it

That's nuts, no way would I catch grass that long on a vacant block. The closest I've been was one where council ordered it to be mowed and not too much mess left. I slashed it with the ride on first...

    Re: Tool expectancy

I still have my 12-13 year old 196 too. Still has the original wheels but has a new catcher and rear cover. I used to use it to mow my lawn and a couple of postage stamp size lawns, now it just...
  25. Re: ? for Hrx217 owners or guys with mowers with 4 wheel hieght adjustment,

Interesting. Might have to do some experimenting with mine. The only time I've put the front down lower than the back was to get a shorter cut.
