    That price for the gearbox is not too bad. If I have no luck fixing the old one I'll go that way.
    I don't want to buy a new catcher mower just for the few lawns that I use it on. The gearbox itself looks perfect, chain & sprockets are still good. Have never needed to adjust the clutch plates/corks. Just put a new belt, new wheels & pawls & pinions, so it should go for years once I get this sorted.

    Checked the gearbox bearing on my SP 50 pro cut today..yep bearing seized and the gearbox shaft worn but not as badly as edbeeks gearbox,i should be able to repair it with a new SKF bearing and Loctite, looks like a common problem in the Rover SP the Chinese bearings they use are rubbish.

    I think the problem is the shaft turning in the bearing, so if you can lock the new bearing onto the shaft it should be good Tomo.
    Mine was too far gone for the liquid metal to work, so I ended up building it up again with weld. Just got the gearbox back together this arvo. Gave it new bearing, seals and new oil.

    If anybody with a SP rover wants a new drive chain, I have enough spare chain to make another 4 chains. I probably won't ever use it all so I could pop some in the mail if anybody can use some.

    Went to my bearing shop and it took them some time to match it and then I had to buy the full 10 foot length.

    I can get some more joiners and it will work out to about $18 /chain but I'd just be happy if someone can use it.
    I never priced the Rover part, but the part number is A16078 - ⅜" chain ASA x 58 links if you want to check their price.

    According to my parts diagram, it's the same chain and length on the 20" & 22" ProCuts.

    edbeek not sure if this is the same problem but I had a similar problem, I put it in to be repaired and he said the shaft had worn and the bearing was ok, I know he adjusted the clutch plate so there was the smallest gap possible.

    I will pm you his mobile number, you might be able to send him a picture and I am sure he will point you in the right direction

    Thanks Dean, but I'm all good now. I think the bearing isn't a tight fit on the shaft and maybe the inner part of the bearing might be jammed on the housing, so from day one, the shaft turns but the bearing doesn't. My bearing was like brand new except for the inner surface, but the shaft had worn from 10mm diam to about 5mm.

    I built the shaft up again with weld and locked the bearing on and it's all good.
    I've never had trouble with the cork clutch. It's still at the original setting. Done quite a few clutch cables though.

    Just the size of deck
    50=20" 50cm
    560=22" 56cm

    I retired my Rover last year when I bought a HRX217. Well that ended badly, so the Rover is back on the trailer.

    Notice it's so much easier to handle than the HRX or the mulchmaster.

    Might get another season out of it

    Just a quick question - which do you think is better for my rover sp 560?

    ...blowing out the drive gears & inside the back wheels with high pressure water or air gun? ...

    The place that sold it to me a few years ago said " wash them out with water til it runs clear" so that's what I've done. Had some work done recently and the mechanic said he'd avoid as much water in there as possible and blow it out with air gun instead.

    Thanks for your advice.

    Gear and pawl i wash out with RP7 or WD40 only when i have too due to loud squeaking usually from where the gear turns on the drive axle.
    I can't see air or water doing much

    I'd use compressed air to blow the dust out then a light use of silicone lube ..too much oil or lube will attract dirt and you will need to clean it more often
    Water use would get into the bearings and eventually they may fail ..
    ....Nothing like a good whipper....

    Does anyone know a rover dealer that actively sells Rovers to contractors on northern Beaches or north shore in Sydney
    All the dealers around me claim to not know of the procut 560 and have to special order them.
    Thanks
