They actually use Inteks on the new ones, with a "Rover" engine option. (Chinese). 850 series are on the current runout models. If you order new, it will have intek. I like the 850 so far. It feels like it has effortless power and torque. Not bad on fuel either.

I have a Rover S/P Pro cut 50 with a Kawasaki Motor, plenty of grunt, great for wet and long grass, The Kawasaki Motor virtually bolted straight on and away you go. I have a honda 21inch S/P also, they both compliment each other as has been mentioned, I have bent the handle bars up higher on the honda because they are far to lower for my tall frame, Rover S/Propelled requires more maintenance than the Honda.

this maybe helpful as a guide to b&s engines http://www5.briggsandstratton.com/eu...s/compare.aspx

Just kidding....ian That links much better.. Ive had no trouble with my b&s engines. i think they are as reliable as honda..
Just harder to work on and not as well built..not the cylinder and sleeve but the other bits like the throttle mechanism and tuning screws/filter setup etc.

I don't own a Honda so can't really comment on the serviceability of the things. I have little trouble with the B&S service and access etc, but given the higher HP and torque, comparable reliability and the substantial discount in the price of a new B&S engine against the Honda, I know that I can get the now B&S, get a good working life out of it and buy a second somewhere down the road and be in front as far as dollars are concerned. Yeah I know that Honda are the mower of choice, but I question whether they are really $4-500 or roughly 33% better or if it is just marketing!

At this stage the Rover 560 doesn't have a blade or engine break but the dealers do believe that they will come, while they don't I will go Rover every time and walk out with coin in my pocket.

Redlandsguy, all the Rovers I saw had engine brakes. Not hard to remove.

They aren't hard to remove or too over-ride but I'd hate to have an accident with one and have WH&S look into it if you did. The smaller Rovers, particularly the domestice models do have the brake, but the 560 Pro Cut doesn't have one at this stage, it will happen I believe but as when is the question.

Called into another dealer today but no Pro cut 50. They had a Pro Cut 560 for $990.00 with the 850 IC engine, think I might go this way and just stick with the 196 on the fiddly lawns.
Ain't it funny how when you ask a dealer about problems with the new Honda's that other contractors have had, they've never come across any problems.

That's about the third or fourth dealer I've heard of now selling them under $1000. Two dealers up here are still trying to get $1200+ for them.

the new model has a blade break... not a bad idea really. At least the engine does not stop

I was wondering with the price as well.. an extra 500 bucks for what ??

seems like the Rover SP 21 will be on the back of the truck soon. Just got to work out a ramp system first

At 22" are these guys getting too big for a versatile mower that will do everything for the "One good mower" operation. I got a price on one today at $850 and compared to the honda thats a big saving. Wondering whether to get one now or wait. ...Decisions decisions...

the 560 is an old mower design. they have been around for about 10yrs. they first came out with 2 blades, i dont know about the new ones though.
the orignal 560 or 22" had hps of problems, which i think where mainly due to just having 2 blades on it.
