    Default Warning

I got a call this afternoon from a indian saying he was from microsoft and that there was problems with my computer. He was reasonably convincing but he didnt know my operating system which is why i was a little suss. Any way he will tell you that his technicians can fix your computer online if you allow them to access your computer. After i hunng up I told the offsider about it as he was still here having a friday drink and he said its in the paper once you give them access they can go into your internet banking and transfer your money to accounts.

Never do anything over the phone with this stuff before clarifying it first with better research. Anyone that gets caught with these love rats, finance scams etc are looking for a quick fix and are as gullable as they come. In my eyes they deserve to get scammed!

It is a well known scam and nothing to do with Mircrosoft. Just ask yourself how they can actually see into and know there is a problem your computer if they need you to give them access. Never ever give anyone remote access to your computer unless you really know and trust them. Even then I would give limited access and delete that immediately afterwards. I had fun awhile back with one of these Paki blokes. Led him up the garden path and then sprung it on him I was actually a federal cop and we were responding to a fraud complaint. He sh** himself and could not hang up quicker.

We've had 3 of these calls in about 6 months. Timmy handed the first one over to me because he really has no idea about computers. I told the guy we don't actually have a computer. That really confuses them!

Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you

You've had three calls in six months... we've had weekly calls for a year now.

I decided to blog some of my experiences - http://techmysupport.blogspot.com/

Now when they call I have a lot of fun with them (such as placing a take away order) until the get frustrated and hang up.

The old Police Down Under calls are doing the rounds pretty hard too. Two of my friends that are newish to the game have had calls just after i warned them about it. One was convinced it was legit so just beware of the scumbags.

They give you some spiel about all Police officers receiving the diary but it is rubbish and they say the money goes to officers injured in the line of duty. SES is another front they use as well as pre schools, and another was supposedly going to go to all schools in the area with some emergency info in it. It is all garbage.

The Police DownUnder publication is a legitimate magazine. I did advertise in them once and I gained some work (minor maintenance) at two local stations as a result.
