    Question 3M posts

Hi all, I've been asked to put up a couple of posts with a cross board to train an existing Wisteria onto.

My client would like 3m high hard wood posts and a pine cross board.

I have a few questions to help me decide which way to go with the footings:

If I get 3.6m posts will 600mm in the ground with cement be enough or do they need to go deeper?

Are those screw in post supports an easy time saving option for someone who hasn't used them before or should I stick with the longer posts?

Thanks in advance for any answers and feedback.

Not sure I would use the screw in stirrups. There will be a bit of weight and force at the top of a 3metre post, I would stick with the concrete. You could even dig a 800mm deep hole, fill the first 200mm before you put the post in and then fill the remainder.

GrowCutMow is spot on. As a carpenter through the week this is what I would recommend. The only thing different would be 700mm hole and 100mm of crete in the bottom first should be more than enough.

Not sure about the pine cross board though! Try and upsell to a hardwood rail and checked into the posts for extra strength.

I would think 300mm x 300mm holes 600mm deep would be more than ample. Would steer away from the screw in stirrups in this application.

I would say the same as back to basics and grow cut mow so no need to repeat it.
