Just checked my oil on my Chonda firstt time since I got it, and it is only half full, and I'm not sure which oil they used, I have just ordered some of this honda oil hoping its the go, I'm going to empty it out all together once I recieve this oil, but in the mean time should I just go to super cheap and buy something to top the levels up or just wait..??

on a new mower i would replace the oil after 5 hours in any case, the stuff that comes out is always contaminated with metal bits and a silvery haze.
I would do a full change with a 10/30 grade (thats what i have for my bikes).or magnatec or some reasonable oil

ok, i use a 10/30 on my car and bikes, if it needs a change you can use stuff from a car shop, you dont have to wait for a special honda oil is what i am saying (i was probably not very clear)

Honda oil is i think strangely a low rated oil only being an SG grade oil so just about any 10 w-30 oil you buy from a car shop will actually have a higher rating

I just use Nulon 10w/30 from super cheap. Does the job in the mowers and the car.

This is great thing for doing oil changes, works on most 4 stroke mowers including my Cox with Honda GXV390. Mine cost me $25.00 from my local mower shop. You just run your mower to warm up the oil and then put the hose down the oil filler tube right to the bottom and start pumping, it sucks up the tube into a bottle which you can tip into your waste oil drum later. Saves a lot of mucking around and mess.

After some research apparently the SG is obsolete and the SJ is now the current standard, so maybe dean selling old oil??

Hi Greenie, I think the obsolete status might refer to use in modern car engines.

The current Briggs oil is SF rating which is also 'Obsolete' (according to the link Ian posted above), but it is the recommended oil.
