How'd you go with this one Immow?
Was reading through the current Burke's Backyard mag last night and came across another really nice hedging shrub called Loropetalum 'China Pink'; very showy flowers and coloured foliage.

All good info here guys/girls well done
Just a note on Photina's, the white flower can affect people with asthma, so make certain that you ask that question before suggesting Photinia's. Yes I agree all good info for all forum members.
What size are they at the moment Astro? Been in for long? Would be keen to see some pics when you have time. The ones in the mag looked great as a formal squared-off hedge but I imagine you could leave them to grow free to form as well.
***y Paul.
I ended up getting the original hedge for her. Planted 2 weeks ago now. Cant remember the name of them...
They seem to be growing well....

Planted the 6"' pots of loropetalums approx 12 months ago they are now 40cmx40cm in size which is good growth rate given the plants mature size is 1.5x1mtr.
They have been grown in ideal conditions.
They would make an excellent low feature hedge, with minimal clipping required, longer term may become woody,i would plant them to attain a 1mtr height.
I personally prefer to allow the plant to take on its natural layered sprawling effect.
Mass plant under decidious trees, over moss-rocks,large pots, retaining walls and where you need strong contrast effect.
Brilliant shrub and well worth planting in the landscape.
Plant Growers Australia grow them and are available at PlantMark.
Will upload photos when available.
Cheers astro.
