When there's a heavy dew I sometimes quickly fly over the top of the grass with the whippy making a magnificent fog and dispersing the water that sits on top of the lawn...if I intend to catch. But have found in recent weeks the best approach when its really wet is to actually lift it up and mulch. Another observation I have made when catching is, as I think others may have pointed out, that it's not only the catcher that is involved in the air-flow. It's a complete system. I.e air is sucked in from the front and sides under the deck which helps to throw the grass back through the chute and into the catcher. I think we create a lot of catching issues ourselves by 1. trying to cut too low. and 2. trying to push through the grass too quickly. If the deck is to low there is no opportunity for enough air to be drawn in from below which means as the grass is cut it is not getting thrown back fast enough to clear the chute which means only a small amount is even getting into the catcher. I actually noticed this the other day when I saw the wheels were half buried in the lawn. Anyway if you are having catching problems just have a look at the mower from the side. If you can't see air between the deck and the ground just try lifting the mowing height a bit and put the drive speed on 2 instead of 3. Of course sometimes we have to mow in conditions that we simply shouldn't be mowing in. Can't do much about that.....maybe a blower on the front of the mower hehe

maybe a row of holes drilled in the side of the deck would help when mowing low?
    Cheers

hmmm...might make it worse.....I'm no expert on this...just what I reckon. But I'm pretty sure it needs to "suck" air in from below the blades then the spinning blades create the uplift. If you drill holes higher than the blades you'd probably just let the air out that is supposed to be going back through the chute....though they'd clog up pretty quickly anyway. Just my 2 bob worth. As for the blower on the front. Maybe a nice wide air outlet similar to the ones on those big lawn vaccuum things but facing out horizontal to the lawn

ive been looking for this pic for ages.. good stuff green grass.

proven, simple. its not a miracle fix but definitely going to work better.
the way i see it is if you have a blocked catcher (which def happens to standard catchers in damp grass as the holes are really small to stop dust in summer) then you are restricting airflow.
kinda like blocking the inlet/outlet on a blower.. its not gonna suck / blow as much

I'd be inclined to invest in a decent backpack blower, a rake and a wheel barrow. Blow the lawn first (as some one else mentioned) to get rid of the majority of the water, w-snip then mow with the ride on and throw the grass into strips (or windrows) rake and pick up the majority of the clippings and then go over it again with the push mower and catcher. Just make sure that you charge accordingly. That is how I mowed my own lawn yesterday and it came up beautiful, but I did wait until the afternoon when it had dried out properly. I think that you would have to have a big compressor and a big tank and therefore lots of weight so that you would have enough air volume to blow grass constantly. Or you could always get something like this !! That's another option.

You know I mowed the lawns today slightly longer then normal and the f&$king chute blocks every time and catcher one third full!!!! Has new victa high lift blades and over laping the long grass so im only cutting a quarter or half the long grass and on # 1 speed which is the slowest. Motor flat out , bag nice and clean!!!grass dry not wet!!! Maybe I need after market blades. I really don't know.
