The last day or so ive had a slight problem with the honda 216 sp. It doesnt want to sit at low revs its like its being staved for air or fuel. changed plus/filter and put fresh fuel in but still happening ??? any ideas ?

Check to see if the choke is sticking apply wd40.
Or may have vapor lock...run it with the fuel cap loose.
Check some other threads there's heaps of stuff you can do to keep it running good.

Air filter
Run it and take the fitter off see if this changes anything,
put some carby cleaner in the fuel ie: http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...26#Description or http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...03#Description use about 1-2ml/litre
also check the sparkplug
Anything Ian says may or may not be garbage, it may also be his own opinion or it may not be his opinion at all, it may just be something he felt like stating anyone following his advice does so at their own risk and may be doing something Ian would actually advise against.
And if you don't like what Ian has to say use the ignore function if you don't know how ask i will gladly tell you
just an update,
got honda out today and thought id give it a start to see if its still got issues..
it still does not want to idle on low revs, ive changed the fuel, changed the air filter and also changed the plug.
can any 1 tell me where the carby is on these things as im almost convinced that it might be a sticky float ie : needle and seed

the carby is behind the airfilter have you checked to make sure the throttle cable hasn't slipped where it clips on to the engine

il will have a look this morning ian to check that the throttle cable hasnt slipped
but when its running at full revs you can hear that its not running to well, 1 thing i did notice is there is no difference between when the choke is on and when the choke is off.
its gotta be 1 of 3 things
1. Sticky carby
2. Throttle cable
3. Sticky choke

If there's any kink at all in the throttle cable where it actuates the linkage to the carby etc replace the cable it as it will only get worse and jam-up.
You can see if the choke mechanism is operating or not. If you put the lever to choke you should see the choke mechanism engage and move. If the cable is not adjusted properly you may not be getting enough choke or you may be getting constant choke. This shouldn't be happening at low revs though.
Problem really sounds like carby. They're not hard to pull apart and clean out. There's only so much you can pull apart on them. Just take careful note of the pull-down and copy that in reverse to put them back together. I did mine recently and it seemed clean when I pulled it apart but I cleaned it anyway and the idle stopped fluctuating. If you don't know where the carby is Benny it might not be a job for you though. Maybe one for the mower workshop.
Take it to a mehcanic... Sounds like it wont cost much... At least you'l know its fixed...

Had a bit of a play with it today and i can say that its not the cable, its not the choke mechanism.
Had a mate over and i was convinced its the carby but he says its either the carby or a spark issue as ie : magneto or faulty lead.
il have a play with it next week as we are moving this weekend, il pull the carby apart and give it all a good clean. then check the magneto and replace the leed if its still doing it after that then il put it in to the shop

id say 99% sure that is just some crap in the carby - does it sound like its missing when running?
highly unlikely magneto - ive heard they almost never fail and lead unlikely also
pretty sure a blockage in the low speed circuit.. (you say idling poorly and not 100% at full revs) - at full revs both the low and high speed circuit are used together - you will most likely be down on power also
ive had the same prob a couple of times.. just takes the tiniest bit of dirt to clog
I used it today Chris and did notice it was down on power. it does sound like it missing when running.
il clean the carby next week.

beginer talking here, but have you dumped the bottom off the carby and flushed it out? i thik one of the screws there just drains all the muck out the bottom of the carby bowl, so you dont have to take off the whole thing
happened to me a couple times when i let the fuel run right out, must have sucked in a bit of dirt from the bottom of the tank
hope ya find the fix ben
thats good starting point happymowing .... i find my honda dose simular from time to time and i do the same thing and if it dont fix it i find about 30ml of fuel system cleaner in each of the next 2 0r 3 tank refills and try to find the worst over grovn grass there is to realy make it drink the fuel and work hard = seems to clean mine out ...also make sure the muffler aint blocked = low revs not enough back presure to clear it self out and it will cause the revs to surge .....
