    guys

for diesel (and presuming petrol injection engines too) should at least try one bottle of chemtech diesel power - my patrol was getting gutless, and the last fill (2 tanks to 3/4 full) i did i only got about 550km - after first application of chemtech, i got about 900 km out of the 3/4 fill (2 tanks 3/4 full) - second fill nearly gone now, and looking at about 1000km for same.

power is back (from about 100 to 200km into the first aplication)

$30 for a 1 litre bottle, which treats 1000 litres of fuel.

    worth a shot.

it cleans the injectors and returns them to "misting" the fuel, it cleans the fuel system, it lubricates the engine (re low sulphur diesel fuel) it has a "cetane booster" which boosts power by about 3% i think the blurb said.

well worth it imo - im going to use it for 5 fills, (been carefully writing down mileage and fuel bought) then i will use it for 3 to 5 fills without it to see if fuel econ worsens

but for $30 its worth a go (imo)

    cheers

All Good and three months later same problem in the older rear C/C again caused by metal exhaust fragments blown into from 3 months ago. The exhaust people said the second C/C is not needed and they cut that out and rewelded the pipe for $60.

    re first power loss.
Local Toyota peoples offered to rescue me with a tow truck, but I got back to their dealership in limp mode. They instantly hoisted my vehicle, found the problem and arranged for the exhaust people down the road to fix it immediately (Friday Arvo). No Charge by the dealer and $200 at the exhaust place for a new C/C.
Pretty happy chappie that arvo after the fix.

So it you think power is dropping and some noises can heard in the exhaust sytem prior to this failure. The above is the likely outcome.
    Hey Gaz

One of my customers was just telling me about something like this going on with a lot of the cars from a big dealership that he used to work for. Turned out they were fitting the exhaust systems over here and all the parts were coming from overseas but they got a few container loads of dodgy c/c's.

    Glenn,
My Hilux was not in warranty and had a genuine toyota system fitted. The big property that I was driving to work on was for the dealerships personal private property as luck would have it. I rang them to say I couldn't make it up the hill and it was like ringing the "International Rescue - Thunderbirds" with rescue offered immediately. They are excellent platinum customers of mine as I work within multiple locations for them.

But what you say may be the case for some folks elsewhere, think my case was just due to age (late 2006 model) and K's on the speedo.

    Thanks Gazza.
The Navara now has the rear canopy also. ( not cheap to buy tho. $2000)
Im amazed how the rear canopies are put on with clamps. Used to be bolted on with my old Rodeo.

OK, re the Hilux Workmate which is a great work vehicle. But it doesn't have central locking being the budget workhorse.
    I've 120,000k's on the late 2006 model.
For the past two years I've been wearing out the key with constant door locking/unlocking.
I keep one orig key as unused so I have a perfect key to cut from.
So each year around May/June the key plays up and no matter how much WD40 is sprayed in the lock, it gives up.
Having a chip in the key, best price is $98 for a new one cut.

So I thought "Stuff It" this time round and I'll just go Central Locking. The Hilux needs a cable pull motorised central locking which the Albury Car/Audio/Alarm specialist dealer is installing tomorrow.
Getting them to put the unused passenger key barrel to the drivers door and driver to passenger whilst at it.
Yep, higher cost than another key cut, but problem solved long term and the benefit of central locking too.
So I'm having the day off tomorrow (yippie) to have it done, they need the car for whole arvo.

Was gona go to pictures and watch World War Z to knock of some time whilst waiting for it to be done. Then me daughter said I would look like homeless man or a bloke with no friends or single bloke sitting there by myself. So I'll give the pictures a miss now.
    Cheers Garry

$400 inc GST, of which $44 will come off me BAS. So really $356, take of the new key price of $98 and it will kinda cost me $258.
Well at least that's how I explained it to the misses.

I used to do the wd40 thing in the ignition when it jammed, then my mechanic told me the best thing is to use graphite, works much better

Definitely graphite for all locks. Dust sticks to WD40 which makes it worse long term.

I can't believe the way car companies scrimp on little things like central locking and bluetooth stereos. My 2012 VW Transporter does not have bluetooth or ipod input. I couldn't imagine it costing very much to include it from new (I can buy a whole new unit with those for $300), so surely this day and age those little things should be standard on all new vehicles. I finally looked into replacing the head unit and for about $700 I can have the works, as well as the option of adding a reverse camera later on.
