    Wink Honda vs Chinese Copy???

I have a "back up" mower that is only used infrequently, mostly when one of the family wants to help out...

It's a late model Masport in great condition but the 5hp Briggs on it has decided that it's time is up so I am pondering alternatives.

I don't want to purchase another Honda and was thinking of repowering it, a new B & S engine runs to about $300.00 and a new Honda 5.5hp engine is around $600.00 which is a little expensive for a back up mower.

However for about the same price as a new Briggs I can get a new 5.5hp Honda copy made in China.

Has anyone had any experience with these units...are they reliable and value for money or should I just buy another Briggs?

    Your feedback would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Wink Re: Honda vs Chinese Copy???

To expand a little on my earlier post...

The Honda GXV160 is promoted as the "Contractors /Professionals" engine but are the Honda engine copies being made in China based on this model...or are they based on the GCV160 which is sold here in Australia as being the most suitable engine for the domestic lawnmower market?

I do understand that Honda does produce some models in China themselves.

Any advice or experience that anyone could provide in regards my query would assist my buying decision!

    Cheers

Cool Re: Honda vs Chinese Copy???

    Hi BigG,

I agree that the Honda motor is strong and outlasts most everything else...

Is your Honda the "Genuine" thing or a Chinese import copy?

    Hi all,

I bought a mower off ebay August this year (06) with one of the 5.5hp ``Chonda`` motors fitted. Had it in mower shop twice with fuel flow problems. tank hadnt been puched out correctly, then was getting blockages from fuel, filter fuel now when I fill it and havent had a problem since.

    Happy New Year to all.

    Mark.
