    David, its Kik, not couch.
I read the blurb but it did'nt mention Kik?
Not that its a flash garden & they have to be realistic when it gets this outa control but, would u trust it with roses?
    Thanx anyhow, whats it worth?
    Cheers Fred.

no, roses are very touchy with weed sprays; I've done rose beds like that, start at the outside & work your way in - beers/anaesthetic to finish

Carefully grub weeds out with a mattock front to back.
    Prune roses.
Follow-up with round-up+pulse to control new weed growth.
    Apply fertilizer+mulch garden bed well.
    Charge accordingly.
Funny how some customers only consider their roses in winter.

Thanx 4 replies, all taken onboard.
Oh, the priorety is out the back where its worse, but not as time consuming as I dont have to battle the thorns.
The welding gloves give great protection but its frustrating with no sensitivity, very hard to grab stuff.
I have'nt been there for 6months & lawn mowing aside, nothing else has been done.
No suprise though, same as last time, time b4, etc.
Oh well, its winter & things are a little slow, so head down, bum up
    Cheers Fred.

I would run a steel rake through the weeds and then cut any rose branches you pick up as far back as you can. Actually maybe something like a fishing gafe would be good to pull through it all first. Should pick up any rose branches then just pull them up and cut right back. Just a thought anyway.

I had one similar to this recently .. no roses, just natives. The ground was so hard I couldnt pull anything out. I ended up getting the whipper snipper into it so i could see what I was doing then hit it with a hoe. Round up on the front away from the plants. Customer was happy and surprised I "went to so much trouble".

Re working around the Roses; I shouted myself to a new pair of gloves last year. Great for working in amongst Citrus too. Super protection but you still have great dexterity.

They have a dearer pair with a few different features but these ones seem to be fine.

They also have pretty good prices on Felco secs and Samurai saws.

Yes Fred I use it on Kikuyu and I use it around roses, it's designed only to kill grass weeds nothing else. I have sprayed around roses and other plants in overgrown gardens before. I have had to spray twice sometimes before it give me a really good kill, mainly because not all the grass received the chemical. I have a set of welding Gauntlets, but the ones I bought from the weld supply place have very thin and supple hand sections with very long and thick arm protection. Great for pruning roses and weeding around roses too.

if you ever notice stunted growth on roses, small spiky distorted leaves (very obvious if you have it) this is caused by glypho drift - I've learnt this the hard way. I see it in gardens occasionally, I'll try & get some pics.
