i find it unbelievable in this day and age how people can pay large sums of money to a contractor:

A. BEFORE the work is done

B. without a full written quote

C. "loaning money" to a contractor.

sheesh.

OMG. 3 grand for a few tree branches???? He belongs in goal.
He's not a tree lopper or gardener. He's just an old thief who's used gardening / lopping as an excuse to steel money.

not defending the bloke = people like it are scum , but if the price for the work seems excesivly high , when are the people them selves going to take responsibilty to obtain other quotes for a comparison . the best people to police this sort of stuff are the general public themselves , and to lend the contractor money ??? WTF ....

yeah my thoughts exactly, theres no law about how much you can charge - altho the one old duck who said he quoted her 30k to take a tree out and she loaned him another 30 k . . . again i see no written proof he took the money from her or she took it from the bank.

we're just going by what someone said in an interview, be interesting to see the facts form the courts about it, though (maybe they cant show us the written proof cos its in the courts?) :dunno:

i think the problem is that he doesnt actually DO the work he quotes for, and that they pay him up front, AND they lend him money (like one guy said, he offered to repay the next week with an extra $1000 for his trouble - easy money is often a con)

and i didnt see anyone pull out a written quote to show ACA, so was it all verbal, in which case shame on the customer too.


not pardoning what the guy does, as hes obviously a con, but people must safeguard themselves too, and take some responsibility.

I also agree with some of the comments on here about quotes and paper work. I never ask for a full payment before a large job, If it is over a certain amount I request a 50% deposit which is refundable if the job can not be done. It goes into a separate account I have.

Sorry, but sometimes I have no sympathy for people that do not get anything on paper, or give out large sums of money to people they do not know as a loan. How stupid are they??? Even if they are oldies, you think they would know better.

I think he does deserve jail time though.
