    Default Walker ZTR

Does anyone own a Walker ZTR?

I'm looking at buying a second hand one, but not sure if the extra dollars are worth the outlay, I can buy plenty of other branded ZTR's brand new for around the same price ($10,000), the machine has done around 600 hours (1 year old) with an 18hp Kohler engine.

Any recommendations or known problems with the Walker, how good is the catcher system on this machine?

Thanks in advance, any info is greatly appreciated.

If you want the best grass catching ZTR get a Walker. Demoed one 7 yrs ago and could not justify it then, but long thick grass was caught quite well from memory. Ask others and work out what you think your target market really is.

    Thanks,

Currently, I would only be able to use the mower on several of my clients lawns, due to the restricted access.

However, I have bought a 2 acre property and my better half wants the grass collected.

So, I thought there may be a niche market for me to target, as most blocks are either 1 or 2 acres and not a lot of contractors use catchers, this could be a good selling point?

I've checked the Walker website out and seen the Walker videos, all seem very impressive.

First up it would be older than 1 year if it has an 18hp motor, So it is an mc model good but the mt is better what size deck is it does it have the height adjuster on the deck when you drive in a straight line does it pull to one side, overall how does it look has it been thrashed. Is it a private sale 10 grand is more than I would pay for an mc. If you want to know anything more just ask. I have had about 5 walkers over the years from the smallest to the biggest, they are great mowers.

It has a 42 inch deck, it is an MC, I had a look at the machine yesterday, (the machine looked like it had been looked after) didn't get to try it out as it was raining and the guy wasn't keen on me getting it wet and dirty (it had been detailed and was nice and clean).

What sort of price would you be looking at for a new MT with a 42 inch deck? is the extra money worth the outlay?

For 10K I would be saying to the guy I am getting it wet and dirty if you want me to cough up that kinda money. No way would I pay good money if I couldnt get it wet and dirty, thats what mowers do. Especially if your are targetting catching you need see how it handles if the grass is a bit wet, even with great sunshine all day down here, the grass has still being wet till late in the afternoon. I catch for a number of my clients and the biggest issue I have is wet grass, so get the machine wet and dirty before you pay anything to this guy.

I wouldn't buy a new one you can get some really good second hand machines, and at this time of year people aren't buying mowers so if you are keen on this machine I would offer 6 grand to start off but you want to know the year of it, cause he is telling you crap already saying it is a year old.I think the new mc is a 20hp and the mt starts at 23hp.With walkers the more hp the better, if you are cutting wet grass and plow into it you will block the chute just like the Honda mowers. This isn't the mowers fault just over expectations by the operator you have to know the machines limitations. I had a 26hp efi mt and it had plenty of power and chute blocking wasn't an issue.
42inch is the most popular size deck if you are catching but I would recommend getting the height adjuster, well worth it.Try and take some pictures and put them up 600 hours is a fair few for 18hp but not to bad if it has been serviced and looked after. I bought my mt with 500 hours on it for 12 grand and sold it with 1500 hours on it for 9 grand, with a mulch side discharge deck and catcher bins as extras. At the moment I have an mb 18hp briggs motor, this is the no catch model it has a 36 inch mulch side discharge deck with the height adjuster its a great little mower but I have hardly used it since Christmas I am thinking of selling it and think around 5 to 5 and a half grand it has 230 hrs and is in very good condition, just to give you an idea. If you drive the machine give it a workout on a hard surface if you can, listen for any noises in the hydros as these are the big dollar things to repair

What about the mb walker 23efi, about $12000 new with the side throw/mulch and a set of fats. Plenty of power, mows and mulches very well. Even in the pouring rain as I found out last week.

Yeah but he wants a collection machine . I think that is a great motor tell us what you think of the machine, what deck do you run. My little 36 inch deck mulches much better than the Honda 216

I'm looking this year at getting the mc ghs with a 42" multi deck. It's $18000 new. Multi deck comes with the height adjuster standard.
Also I can get the 2 dump boxes that sit inside the catcher so I can empty the clippings into the green waste bins easily.
The 42" will still go through into most backyards with a big enough lawn to use a ztr on.

Thanks NLALM, the info provided is very helpful, there is a compliance plate on the machine with 2012 on it, I guess it could have been imported at some stage, with the Aust. compliance plate put on it then? I have had a fair bit of a look on the net for used Walkers, not too many around, with low hours and GHS. Let me know if you know any worthwhile websites that list used mowers?

cylo, I have bought my acres in Bowral NSW, so I will service my current clientele as well as any new clients in the Southern Highlands.

If you don't mind me asking, which supplier have you been dealing with? There are a fair few around and wasn't sure if it was cheaper to go straight to the importer based in Wagga?

I've spoken to the guys in wagga and ill be getting the best deal available for this time of year.
    They are very helpful.
If you are looking for a second hand walker you need to contact sme mowers wagga as they have some great dealer refurbished machines available most of the time.
Lggf I grew up in moss vale then moved up here to Newcastle. Much less frost...
I would love a couple of acres in Bowral. Such a nice area.
