Default Plastic Lawns for a Plastic Future?

Got the attached A4 promotional document delivered amongst my retail catalogues on the weekend. For starters its for NSW and I'm in Wodonga Vic.

There are two houses not far me with Plastic Lawns, but thankfully far enough so I can't see them from my front door. Plastic lawns that you can play plastic footballs on as one retires to your plastic outdoor furniture with your plastic drink bottle. WTF!!!!

Bring me back the days of a 1/4 acre block with a real lawn, with the family kicking a Sherrin Leather football on during winter and using a wooden cricket stumps/bat and leather ball in summer. Whilst having wrought iron or wooden furniture to sit back on with your real dog munching on a real bone at your side.

    (Raining outside and I'm Bored)

    Cheers Garry

Plastic grass sure is easy to blow down though, you could even vacuum it if you really wanted to.

What they don't tell you is that

    1. Weeds can and will grow through the turf

    2. If you have any, trees, shrubs, plants, dogs, cats, garden mulch or bark, birds.............. your nice clean lawn one day will become dirty the next and get worse and worse every day until you clean it

I do a number of weekly services of properties to clean their artificial lawn because it gets dirty and normally by the time I get there they are all covered in litter and look crap.

Three weekly mow or one weekly service......

So really do you save any money?, not to mention the large cost of install and the fact that artificial turf is hard as a rock to fall on and not suitable for dogs.

Plus natural grass absorbs a large portion of the heat in summer so it naturally cools your house and also provides a large amount of oxygen into the atmosphere.

Most of the artificial grass is made in china, so no help to our economy. Real grass (turf) is grown here, sold here, maintained here and the money stays "here".

    Need I go on.......

Your better off going "Italian/Greek" and having concrete everywhere.

    Sorry I forgot to add...

    Save water....really?

In SA the govt just spent millions installing a massive salt treatment plant double the size they were originally going to install which we are now paying for with our massively increased water rates. Were paying for it so we may as well use it!

Use the money and buy a rain water tank instead.

I've had a client ask me about quoting on a approx 6x3m area with maybe a 900mm - 1m high retaining wall thats 6m long, soil brought in, the area levelled and laying of artificial grass.

They have quotes of 25k for the work. If these companies are snagging work like this they're making a mint.
