Bosch Keo 10.8V Rechargeable Pruning Saw
Hi Guys
Brad from Geelong Mowing here.
A customer of mine had an apple tree that needed to be cut right back which looked like around 100 cuts. I wasn’t too keen on the two handed operation with the loppers and it had been a while since I bought a new toy, so I said why not.
I purchased them from Bunnings for $149 and for that you get the unit with 1 x wood blade and a charger.
I was really impressed with the one handed cutting ability of the pruning saw. The saw still works once the guard is removed and that means you can get the saw into all sorts of difficult to get to positions.
It can cut anything up to an 80mm diameter, but it was best suited to branches around 30mm. It tended to just skid across the really small branches and these were best left for the secateurs anyway.
Unfortunately the battery life wasn’t what I hoped for which meant I only pruned half the tree before I had to go back to old school pruning methods. The battery is built into the unit which means you can’t grab a 2nd battery and keep going.
In summary, despite only a fair battery life, this unit by Bosch is still a handy piece of equipment and one that I can see myself using a fair bit. With R.S.I. and tennis elbow a problem for me nowadays, products like this always interest me as they can be kinder on the body.
You can also get blades suited for metal, wood/metal and plaster, so the uses for the saw are not just limited to the garden.
I tried the Ryobi version, but it was much heavier and didn’t feel as nice in the hand.
Hope this review is of assistance
Brad

Re: Bosch Keo 10.8V Rechargeable Pruning Saw
Hi Brad from Geelong Mowing,
I also have one of these, and have done a lot of pruning with it. Absolutely marvelous except for as you say - battery time a bit short. Only problem problem I have encountered in the twelve months I have owned it, is the charger unit. You have to be extra careful when plugging it in to the pruner as if not aligned absolutely right, the pins will bend and a replacement charger will be required. Otherwise, an excellent piece of kit and well worth the money. Regards. Bruce / GAMS

Oh, & how do the blades fare?
Pity about the battery run time also

I've had one of these on my Watch List for a while now purely for the fact of the battery side of things.
Anyone looked in them (or other brands) with a regular battery?

Yer, finally got around to trying one.
It works ok but isn't efficient.
The wood blade simply isn't aggressive enough , too slow particularly with multiple cuts.
Better off with a good pair of loppers & a sharp handsaw.
Oh well, its a versatile saw with other applications using other blades.
Would I but one with the benefit of hindsight, for pruning purposes ? No !
Cheers Fred.

Quick reassessment, had another crack & found it to be very good on harder dead wood.
It cut through it nicely & would save your good saw the punishment.
Blades are disposable & relatively cheap.
Cheers Fred.

Re: Bosch Keo 10.8V Rechargeable Pruning Saw
if it was its first use then after a few charges it should improve the battery life
if its like most things like this the battery does die from overcharging
i have a mechanical timer set for 5 hours that i use for my bosch 7.2 volt screwdriver which is prob now over 5 years old
and used daily and charged weekly

I liked mine so much and found it so handy, I went out and bought the battery trimmer with the three attachments for trimming and shaping shrubs. Another great piece of kit.
