    Default % cost of repairs?

Do ppl have an opinion on this?
What would you spend on a repair in relation to the age of the piece of equiptment?
I would be very reluctant to spend more than 30-35% of purchase price on anything more than 12 months old.
    Cheers Fred.

Fully agree with the smaller gear especially, I tend to run them till they break and only replace minor bits and pieces, not into spending heaps on them.

Although having said that I have just spent a bucket load for a new deck and transmission on my rider which is 6 years old, but decided didnt have the ready cash to trade up at this time.

I don't really keep a check on it, but I usually purchase at least 2 of the same piece of equipment over time so I often have spares.

Except for my Honda 195's got about 3 oldies for spares and 5 working

The only time I've come close to 30% was to rebuild the engine on a saw I bought second hand. Cost $850 all up but replacement cost for the same saw is $3k new.
The next most expensive machine to maintain/replacement cost would be the Rover SP. Have spent about $200 on parts over 3 yrs. Cost $900 new and replacement now is $700.

I would spend more if it was only a year old but after that i agree with the percentage Fred said.
