Check the drive cone under the seat. It may be worn.

I put some more tension on the engine belt by undoing the four bolts and pulling it forward a fraction. Has definetly increased the speed but can still hear a couple of budgies sqweaking under the belt especially on sharp turns. When I hear the sqweaking and a loss in speed I back of the pedal and you can hear it pick up again so maybe it is a sign of belt slippage. Maybe belt grip as suggested will do the trick.

I have no idea what a drive cone is but I am curious as to what is under the seat. There are bolts which look to hold the metal casing on but what is that one for in the middle of the four?

pretty sure you'd have a hydro not a cone drive

Got rained out today by the way. Gone from doing nothing cause it was too dry, to doing nothing cause its too wet. Jobs are piling up. Grass is growing at least. Amazing the change in two weeks. Gone from desert to overgrown.

if its hydro then under the seat will be a green metal grill with circular pattern cut into it and a fan visible on top of the hydro transmission - from memory the cone drives have a couple of big pulleys under the seat somewhere..... haven't seen one in donkeys years, actually since I had a GT2000 many moons ago

edit - there should also be a overflow tank on top of a hose in one corner

Try the Belt grip and let me know how you go.

Also make sure the brake for the deck is not partially on while engaged.

I put some golden syrup on the belts (in place of belt grip) and it improved it again. I reckon it was a slippage issue like you said. I did have a close look at the bigger belt before putting on the golden syrup and it did appear to have slight wear marks. Given the motor is all the way forward should I change the belt or at least buy a spare? Seems to go alright for now. When buying a replacement should I buy the same size or smaller? Joey, how does the brake work, I notice you said brake for the deck. i haven't tried to suss it out myself yet.

I'd go for the same size belt, get a Kevlar one if possible.

For memory, drive belt is an A81 and deck belt is a B54

How do I change the engine belt? The mower is still bogging down and squeeling under load. Can't see anything in the manual about it? Also came across a lever on the back axle. It's a metal rod pocking out towards the deflector side. What's it for?

Checked the deck brake as suggested earlier, it seems to be ok. I'm having a lot of trouble working out what belts to buy. The manual says OEM V39 for engine and OEM V46 for cutter but there isn't any such thing as a V46, I believe it is a typo and should read V40. From googling I make the v39 equivalent to the A83 and the V40 to be equivalent to A57.

On top of that when I pulled the old engine out enough to read the wording on it says it is an A84???? That might explain the slippage. If its not the original belt seems very unlikely that this mower has had only 10 hours use.

the lever disengages the trannie so you can push it easier

I changed the drive belt before xmas, its a bit of a ***** to do, slip the belt off the auto tensioner, take the plate off at the back to access the rear pulleys, unbolt the top of the cowling under the seat and start swearing, you need to lift the pulley arrangement off the tranny to remove the drive belt but its a sh1t of a job and very frustrating the first time (I say first time as I ended up doing it about 3 times as I kept forgetting something crucial) after a lot more swearing you'll finally get the belts off so you can pull it off the engine pulley and remove it. Feed the new belt through and then the really hard part, getting the belts on the pulleys and fitting it all back on the tranny - I've probably forgotten a few things and to be honest, I'd pay someone to do it if you're not comfortable doing it

What I did was slide the engine back to slacken the engine belt, pulled out the r pin from the cutter rear bolt and swung it out, the belt is off the engine pulley and clear of the cutter, just gotta undo that transmission bolt now. Thought I was home for a minute.
