    Default Exaggerated invoice?

hi all, just did a quote for a guy today and he said the owner wants a tax invoice for 80-90 bucks.($50 quote)so he can claim extra tax back.if I accept that, doesn't it mean I will have to declare $80 as per invoice thus leading to me paying more tax?or do I just him a receipt with no ABN...or just refuse the deal?

yep that's basically it, you'll have to declare the phantom money as income.

why on earth would they bother doing this for a few measly dollars. Not like we're talking hundreds or thousands.

If you are registered for GST, then you'll technically be breaking the law by not charging your customer GST (invoicing without ABN).

dont do it, you will be hit for higher gst, and have to show higher income.

unless of course they want to pay you the 80 bucks

Yes agree it sounds like Trouble and smells like trouble..Just give him a nice NO and you may still get the job if you really need it....But he does sound like a scrooge
I used to hate Pita`s but have learnt to just put them in there place from the start and often they become good customers once put back on track ..

I'll bet guy getting the quote is going to pocket the difference
Is the quote and invoice made out to the owner for work at such & such address or the tenant?
I'd give him a straight out NO, is your integrity worth 30 bucks?

Walk away it ain't worth the stress!

For the east Melbourne-ites there's a certain independent servo on Highbury Mt Waverley that tries this sort of thing, be warned. (It's the not the one down near the cemetery in Burwood)
