Default New Rules in the ACT re Asbestos - Good Read Peoples

Interesting read here boys and gals.
This will spread to other states one would expect.
The 12,000 construction-industry workers who must be trained (the list is not exclusive, with the new law covering other workers also, including mechanics).

I envisage in the not to distant future that the only people able to perform any sort of "risk" work (a description that seems to cover every bloody thing lately) will be the big companies who can afford the cost of compliance. A ticket for this a ticket for that, where does it stop.

Just checked the list of occupations, although as Garry highlighted the list is not exclusive

Landscapers and gardeners are not on it

I was thinking about yourself when I posted the topic. It does mention Handyperson which one heck of a broad title.

I always read the Canberra Age as I get locked out of the Melb Age rather quickly and then go to the Canberra Age and never get locked out from reading it.
I do see Asbestos material in two older houses I do. One has it scattered in broken pieces along a rear boundary fence. Careful ass, as I stay clear and weed spray that area. Don't think the extremely nice people who live there know about it. Off topic a little; they tip me $10 every visit too and my quote was at the maximum to begin with.

personally, I just think they are impressed that someone in Canberra can actually read ...clearly not knowing you're not in Canberra of course lol sorry to any Canberra locals, couldn't help myself.
I dont break things ...I just use them beyond their operational limitations

It sure is. Makes me think about some of the things I actually do. Eg put up wires for jasmine etc to grow on, yesterday secured a hook in a wall for a grape vine.

I might have to do the training, then evaluate if my team needs to do it too.

I received an email from worksafe about it, I use my personal email just in case, might ask them the question.......but I think I know their answer

Some of you guys do yard clean-ups and rubbish removal, there's your answere , its more of a identify thing, the rule I've been taught in my last employer (assholes btw) was that if it looked like asbestos then assume it is until its properly identified, man there were d1ckheads who thought sound insulation was asbestos....the list goes on.

Three years ago we had drawn out problems assisting my elderly father sell his really nice large cottage home in Castlemaine after Mum had passed. Had to move him close to my family in Wodonga at the time.
Reason being the house was clad in that fake brick sheet cladding. nearly every person mentioned the word asbestos.
Because Castlemaine is a trendy with higher prices, area we dropped the price and still got amble funds to buy in a nice home in Wodonga due lower price rates.
    Cheers Garry
