Post New Multi Tool required - Shindaiwa OR Husqvarna

    Hi Guys,

Wondering your opinion on Shindaiwa versus Huqvarna multitools? Looking to upgrade in the next week or so as my Mitsubishi / Kaaz Clone (although it has served me incredibly well) is on its last legs.

    Shindaiwa - http://www.allpower.com.au/product/s...30-power-head/

    Husqvarna - http://www.husqvarna.com/au/products/trimmers/525rjd/

My natural tendency is to lean towards the Shindy, as I know that they are reliable and have used them before when contracting for a mate's company. However, my dealer, who stocks both, has said that I should seriously consider the Husqi given it has a bit more grunt and components are apparently just as reliable as the Shindy.

Whats your experience? Using mainly speed feed line attachment and hedging attachment so any info / opinions you're able to give me would be great. What do you like about your Shiny or Husqi?

Price is not part of the consideration for either.

    Cheers!

I should also mention that I've been reading through as many of the related threads I could find in the forum - good info on Shindi in general, not as much available on the Husqi, but nothing to specifically compare the two.

I just bought a Tanaka multi tool after my Stihl one was stolen from my ute. Awesome unit, lighter than any multi-tool I've used before. Easy to start, runs well and good vutting blades. Cost me around $900 with the brush cutter head and pole hedger.
Worth considering as I was looking at Shindaiwa as well.
Experience and word of mouth from other contractors has told me not to look at Husky gear.

Shindi every day of the week, husqvarnas can be awfully touchy in my experience ...I had alot of reliability issues with them. Damn Swedes are good for nothing ....look at volvos and ikea. Enough said.

I've got the shindy, can't really fault it. I am trying to think why I went shindy instead of Husky, pretty sure it was price, as I was starting to upgrade from the cheap ebay crap I started out with and was still limited in $$$

I have the husky multi tools. The 3 serie and the new 5 series

I have found them to be very good and reliable.
Have replaced a starter spring or two over the years

I have broken a drive shaft cutting stuff too big with the hedger....replaced free as the drive shaft has a lifetime warranty

Never had a shindy so can't compare

I like the hedge attachément with the short pole!

The husky whipper heads are so easy to load with line

Was only putting forward my opinion. Just like you gaz, all of my equipment except mower obviously, is one brand. shindaiwa. simply put, as I said, I had reliability issues with the husqvarna and wouldnt go back. I am sure there are people who have issues with shindaiwa but personally I can not fault them or recommend them highly enough. Ymmv.

    All good ,
I've just stayed loyal to my closest local and bigger dealer and buy all from them and get Contractor purchase discount.
Plus the big ticket item is no matter what day, time, week or part of the year or season. When I have a break down be it minor or greater, I get "While U Wait" service and taken into their tea room and coffee made for me. On the very rare occasion it can't be repaired due to a part not in stock. They offer me one of their back up units.
So what ever brand one buys, investigate how good that back up service will be from shop, because until you can afford back up gear within your fleet it's needs to be considered..
Buy a brand from a dedicated committed team within a dealership who respect contractors who are loyal to them within the equation Ford V Holden.
    Cheers Garry

I had nothing but trouble with my Husky combi tool about 7-8 years ago. It just wouldn't start even when brand new, and once it did start it would stop after 2 minutes. I gave it away in the end. I'm a big fan of the Japanese stuff.
